There is one guy I would replace Trump with right now in a heartbeat.  And that is Governor Abbott.  He's certainly on top of my 2024 list.

Trump got himself elected by the people, not the party. Despite being dismissed as a joke by democrats and as a nuisance by the RNC and Jeb and the clowns running against him, he won on the confidence that the voters (people) put in him – not the party.

This move to end the stalemate and get federal employees back to work demonstrated compassion for workers which will elevate him above Nancy and Chuck in the eyes of the little people. This, after giving Chuck and Nancy numerous opportunities to come in and negotiate, with everything on the table. But they flatly refused every invitation. They are the ones who look weak – not Trump.

Trump did good for the folks, all the while continuing to build a rational for issuing an emergency declaration to build the wall after congress had failed to act.

I hope you are right and one day VERY soon I have to log on and apologize for ever doubting him,but I just don't see any way for that to happen after he caved on this. Not only won't the Dims pay any attention to anything he says in the future,but neither will the Republicans that publicly backed him and got burnt this time.

No half-measures are going to be good enough. IF he is to ever gain back any credibility,it's got to be a wall the length and type that he was telling everyone he was going to put up. Even ONE foot less and it will be a failure his opponents will never let him forget.

And without any help even from the Republicans and the alleged Republicans,I just don't see how he can do it.

I  hadn't really thought about it,but doesn't that vary by state?

I just can't wrap my mind around a couple who both have civil service jobs and are in their 60's don't have enough money saved to pay their bills for a couple of months,and are worried about losing their house and having their utilities cut off after missing 1 paycheck.

WTF is the matter with these people? Are they children,or adults? I'm betting they both have expensive luxury cars,a boat,a RV,and that they usually eat dinner in restaurants. I have to admit I have ZERO sympathy for them. Anybody THAT freaking stupid deserves to have to sleep in the park in the rain.

The Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees program provides benefits for eligible unemployed former civilian Federal employees. The program is administered by States as agents of the Federal government. This program is operated under the same terms and conditions that apply to regular State Unemployment Insurance (see State Unemployment Insurance). In general, the law of the State in which your last official duty station in Federal civilian service was located will be the State law that determines eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits.

There is no payroll deduction from a Federal employee's wages for unemployment insurance protection. Benefits are paid for by the various Federal agencies.

Benefits
The law of the State (under which the claim is filed) determines benefit amounts, number of weeks benefits can be paid, and other eligibility conditions.

The ones still working are still working, so they're not eligible for unemployment even though they're not getting paid. Second, if the federal government lapses on their pay, they're also lapsing on unemployment insurance.

In Idaho, they pay unemployment on the income of the six months previous to the last six months worked.
