Instead of focusing on the wall, why can’t the focus be on why they are coming here in the first place? Handouts, pure and simple. Stop the handouts. Stop free medical, stop free schooling, stop their filing for IRS credits. Go after companies hiring un E-verified employees.  Dry up their ability to live off the government tit. Go after identity theft. Dry up all the money sources for illegal aliens.

Because there is not a single person in this government with the intestinal fortitude to do what really needs doing!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Was Bush a wrecking ball?   We got Obama because of him.

After Pelosi took over in 2006 Bush gave up.

Yeah. Jeb! and all the other losers were so strong on the border. It also helps that McConnell and Ryan are card carrying members of the Open Borders society too.

I've said repeatedly that the Republicans don't want a wall. Even up thread.

But this last adventure is all Trump.

The worst part is, we'll never know the result of having a conservative in office, since we haven't had one since Coolidge—and even he only got in by Harding dying.

Uh oh,  be ready for the incoming of worshippers of "St. Reagan".

The great wall of China didn’t take as long to build as it takes getting important legislation through congress.

I hope folks can appreciate that Donald Trump has built hundreds of walls before in another career. He knows a thing or two about the process, the costs, what to expect.

In fact, he just may be the most qualified president ever to build a wall.

That doesn't change any of what I said that.  All that stuff has to be done before it's built and what will take the longest are the lawsuits.

But how many times must trump have to say it, he has an ace in the hole: declaring a national emergency if the political process breaks down?

He’s re-iterated again and again that he wants to use the normal political processes for getting the wall – but, that if it doesn’t happen that way, he’s always got that ace.

The fat lady hasn’t sung, but let’s all wring our hands and gnash our teeth even while the game is still on.

Dude.... you're not making your case here (hate to tell ya).  More like rubbing salt in a very fresh wound.  Maybe you should just drop the subject for now..(timing is everything)... and wait a while to bring it up again?  lol

Thank you for your suggestion. I’ll be ignoring it, of course.

So, what is untrue about what I said? Can you name another president who’s had the experience of building skyscrapers and hundreds of other structures across the globe, in a long building career?

I can’t think of one who can come close to Trump’s experience with the building trades.

You don’t have to answer. I know you just like to puff yourself up and show everybody how smart you are – not.

This "temporary" reopening of the Government is the camel's nose under the tent flap for the Dems...the Government won't get shut down again...and the wall won't get built now that the Dems have made Trump blink on this.

And Trump will be suitably rewarded in 2020, if he's foolhardy enough to run.

Here is the leader and hero of the Never Trump movement in action.....

George W. Bush on immigrants: 'We ought to say thank you and welcome them'

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/372882-george-w-bush-on-immigrants-we-ought-to-say-thank-you-and-welcome

Quote
Former President George W. Bush said on Thursday that the U.S. needs to “welcome” immigrants and thank them for doing the "jobs that Americans won't do."

"Americans don’t want to pick cotton at 105 degrees, but there are people who want to put food on their family’s tables and are willing to do that,” he said, according to The Associated Press. "We ought to say thank you and welcome them.”

Speaking at a summit in Abu Dhabi, Bush criticized President Trump’s approach to the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects undocumented immigrations who were brought to the U.S. as children from deportation.

“America’s their home,” Bush said of DACA recipients.

This is the type of person who populates the entire GOP except for the White House. Bush tried many times to open the borders and yet all the Never Trumpers are blaming the President for inaction on the border. It's a hoot.

A result similar to the one I now expect.

That movement is one was specifically referring to. I've been close to that group since they were in a hole in a wall trailer in Overton (technically before but that's a story for another day). A slick website doesn't make something trustworthy.

Perhaps you should read the website to see what they are doing.

"Compassionate conservationism" and amnesty for millions of illegals was all Bush. Expanding government in all directions repeatedly - no child left behind, drug programs, etc. He was poison for conservatism by remaking it in his own image. That wasn't incompetence. That was liberalism.

What is not smart... is lauding how Trump is THE best qualified person to build a wall... on a thread where he just caved to the rats on building a wall.  (friggin duh)

Not smart... but funny as hell!

Perhaps you should read the website to see what they are doing.

Words on a website are just words. They are like 'organic' labels on produce- almost meaningless other than to attract a target market.

Actually had Hilliary won and the GOP had both houses of Congress then the chances of getting the wall would have been way higher than with Trump. Today's GOP functions much better as an opposition rather that a ruling party. There might not have been a "big beautiful wall" but the GOP likely would have got something out of Hillary and strengthened its hold on Congress in 2016 instead of losing with Trump...
