PARIS,— Kurds leading the fight against the Islamic State group in Syria asked France Friday for military and diplomatic support following President Donald Trump’s decision to pull US troops out of Syrian Kurdistan (northern Syria), a spokeswoman said.

The leaders of the political wing of the Kurdish-led force also said they feared they could “lose control” over foreign Islamic State jihadists being held in Syrian Kurdish jails if IS used the US pullout to regroup, or if Turkey pushed ahead with its threatened offensive against the Kurds’ self-declared autonomous region, Ilham Ahmed said.

Two top political leaders of the Syrian Kurdish alliance battling the Islamic State group, the co-chairs of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) Riad Darar and Ilham Ahmed arrived in Paris on Friday for talks on the planned US military withdrawal from Syrian Kurdistan, an alliance representative said.
