Republican Senator Ted Cruz has just upped the ante on the contentious battle with the newly-emboldened Democrats over President Trump’s proposed border wall.

The Texan who is fresh off of his defeat of liberal rock star Beto O’Rourke just introduced a bill to fully fund the wall at $25 billion which will infuriate Democrats who are already engaged in a game of guts poker with Republicans over shutting down the government.

Trump has been firm in his request for the funding of a key election promise and as recently as Friday blasted Democrats for “playing games” over what given the recent proliferation of migrant “caravans” of thousands that are not only riddled with aspiring “refugees’ who have infectious diseases but also are a perfect cover for criminal elements and possibly terrorists in what has become less about immigration and more about national security.

It was only weeks ago that Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer suggested that there could be some negotiation on the amount allocated for the wall but he was immediately attacked by the fanatical and dangerous social media mob and quickly backed down.

The article also points out that the U.S. will quickly recoup that expenditure ten times over if we can eliminate illegals from out country.  They are very expensive.

Impossible, but the wall will help to mitigate the problem. It's even more important that we have consequences for illegal immigration. There is no incentive for them to stop.

Nothing against Ted Cruz, but I'll bet the bill goes nowhere.

I'm glad he's among the co-sponsors of this bill.

From the article:  "To pay for the border wall, the Republicans propose to crack down on benefits for undocumented immigrants, including requiring that parents have a Social Security number to claim refundable tax credits, requiring any welfare applicants to prove they are a citizen and increasing minimum fines on individuals who cross the border illegally or overstay visas."

The bill will have an uphill climb because of the democrats but there are a few things going for it.  One, I think the Senate is coming around to it, maybe because most of the population wants it.

And two, our current President has made the wall a priority.  I don't think there's any doubt that he will continue to push this issue.

Even without a wall, there is so much we could do to make the U.S. less attractive to immigrants.  There is literally no downside to coming now.

Doesn't the House have to appropriate the money?

And if this wall was such a priority -- for Trump and the rest of the Republicans -- the wall would have been built by now.  Same with making the invasion less attractive from a  monetary standpoint.  Fact is, the Republicans had two years of the presidency and  both houses of congress.  They didn't do squat.

And with the Dems taking over the House, for sure, nothing will be done now.  Face it, @Emjay   You, I and everyone else here and every voter who voted for Trump and the Republicans have been hornswoggled.

If they don't get it passed before January 20....(and they don't seem to be in any particular hurry)...

it will go nowhere.  Possibly, just as intended by this GOP Congress....?

I disagree @Applewood   A few years ago people were not even talking about the immigration problem...at least not political leaders.

Donald Trump brought it to the fore when he ran on building a wall and when that platform struck such a chord with people that it helped him beat Hillary.

I don't understand people who are ready to lay down their arms because the democrats won a majority in the House.  Except in the 'crazy' districts, those democrats have to run for re-election and most democrats have only a vague idea of what real people want.  Real people want jobs, we want the country to be hospitable to business so that jobs are available; we want fair trade that doesn't give advantages to other countries; and we want to keep people out of our country unless they will be an addition in some way.  People wanting entrance should want to work and have some skill to do so; they should want to learn English and be a real part of the country, not just leeches.

Also, I have a lot of trouble understanding people who are so ready to give up.  Give up on Trump, for example.  Without Trump, we would not even be discussing a wall or a bill introduced to fund one.

Yeah, Trump was an interloper and viewed with suspicion by the in-crowd in the Senate but I think he's made some serious strides in gaining their respect, Ted Cruz for one.  Grassley for another; Lindsey Graham has a new best friend.

And yet, some people are amazed, shocked and appalled that he's had two whole years and there is no wall.  Two years.  I think a lot of people on both sides thought of his election as a aberration that was temporary.  It is not temporary.  Trump will win in 2020 if he runs and I think he will.  He has boundless energy and shows no sign of slowing down, while the democrats cannot think of a single person in their ranks who could make a good showing against Trump.  They've trotted out some young jerk types and wheeled out the aging old pervert Biden.

So, yeah.  I think the American people want to stop the invasion and will be for a wall.  Even more important is to stop benefits to illegals.

Yes,he did. You are still a whiny little bitch for whining about it and it hasn't even happened yet. Mexico might still pay for the Wall before it's over and done with, and I hope you choke on your bile if it happens.

The US Constitution states that bills for raising revenue have to originate in the House.  I've never seen anything about spending.

No, he didn't.  He went onboard a ship that had a banner saying "mission accomplished" hanging behind where GWB spoke.

Trump said a lot of things about the wall, Kevin, which you should be happy about if you're interested in a wall.

I just saw on Fox that Republicans are going to try to get this bill passed in the lame duck session.

Yep and still trying to understand why some people think it's a good idea to bring GWB up either because they hate Trump or like him.

Oh, my bad. Is it safe to say it was implied by the president, or was he unaware of the big banner behind him?

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

The point is all of these guys fall short in one way or another. Making a big deal over Mexico paying for the wall or not seems pointless.

Yeah, after that ship had just accomplished its mission.  Then he was relentlessly mocked by people who were too smart to know what a mission was.

I've read that that was also staged as a way of bringing onboard the arab nations who were willing to be part of the "recovery" effort, but not the active combat against Saddam's gov't.

You don't know the half of it @corbe.  If we beat Philly today I am gonna actually put the Cowboy sticker on my car !! haha

But why not be optimistic?  There is a chance that this will get done and, if it does, I will be happy.

And if it never gets done, I will not have spent my life moaning, carping and complaining, but in hope and happiness.
