Doesn't the House have to appropriate the money?
And if this wall was such a priority -- for Trump and the rest of the Republicans -- the wall would have been built by now. Same with making the invasion less attractive from a monetary standpoint. Fact is, the Republicans had two years of the presidency and both houses of congress. They didn't do squat.
And with the Dems taking over the House, for sure, nothing will be done now. Face it, @Emjay You, I and everyone else here and every voter who voted for Trump and the Republicans have been hornswoggled.
I disagree
@Applewood A few years ago people were not even talking about the immigration problem...at least not political leaders.
Donald Trump brought it to the fore when he ran on building a wall and when that platform struck such a chord with people that it helped him beat Hillary.
I don't understand people who are ready to lay down their arms because the democrats won a majority in the House. Except in the 'crazy' districts, those democrats have to run for re-election and most democrats have only a vague idea of what real people want. Real people want jobs, we want the country to be hospitable to business so that jobs are available; we want fair trade that doesn't give advantages to other countries; and we want to keep people out of our country unless they will be an addition in some way. People wanting entrance should want to work and have some skill to do so; they should want to learn English and be a real part of the country, not just leeches.
Also, I have a lot of trouble understanding people who are so ready to give up. Give up on Trump, for example. Without Trump, we would not even be discussing a wall or a bill introduced to fund one.
Yeah, Trump was an interloper and viewed with suspicion by the in-crowd in the Senate but I think he's made some serious strides in gaining their respect, Ted Cruz for one. Grassley for another; Lindsey Graham has a new best friend.
And yet, some people are amazed, shocked and appalled that he's had two whole years and there is no wall. Two years. I think a lot of people on both sides thought of his election as a aberration that was temporary. It is not temporary. Trump will win in 2020 if he runs and I think he will. He has boundless energy and shows no sign of slowing down, while the democrats cannot think of a single person in their ranks who could make a good showing against Trump. They've trotted out some young jerk types and wheeled out the aging old pervert Biden.
So, yeah. I think the American people want to stop the invasion and will be for a wall. Even more important is to stop benefits to illegals.
