The Hill By Tal Axelrod 11/17/2018

Justice Sonia Sotomayor says her colleagues have welcomed the Supreme Court's newest justice, Brett Kavanaugh, into the court's “family” after his confirmation process captivated the nation and further exposed its partisan divides.

"When you're charged with working together for most of the remainder of your life, you have to create a relationship," Sotomayor told CNN’s "Axe Files" in an interview released Saturday.

"The nine of us are now a family and we're a family with each of us our own burdens and our own obligations to others, but this is our work family, and it's just as important as our personal family," she said.

"We've probably spent more time with each other than most justices spend — who have spouses — with their spouses."

Justice Sotomayor on Kavanaugh Coming to the Supreme Court: 'The Nine of Us Are Now a Family'

Gina Martinez

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor says that newly appointed Justice Brett Kavanaugh is already like “family.”

Sotomayor recently sat down with David Axelrod, for an episode of CNN’s “Axe Files” that will air Saturday, and spoke about welcoming in the new justice.

Kavanaugh was confirmed after a highly publicized Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September. He was accused by Professor Christine Blasey Ford of sexual assault in the 1980s when they were both teenagers. Kavanaugh vehemently denied the accusation and was eventually confirmed with a 50-48 vote in the Senate.

Sotomayor said among Supreme Court justices, typically a lifetime appointment, there is no choice but to create a relationship.

“When you’re charged with working together for most of the remainder of your life, you have to create a relationship,” Sotomayor said. “The nine of us are now a family and we’re a family with each of us our own burdens and our own obligations to others, but this is our work family, and it’s just as important as our personal family.”

She said Justice Clarence Thomas, who also went through a similar hearing in the 1990s after being accused of sexual harassment, told her when he first came to the court a justice approached him and told him “I judge you by what you do here. Welcome.”

She told Axelrod she repeated that story to Kavanaugh when she first greeted him.

Such an odd thing to say about a sexual predator.

I guess we know who’ll bring the beer, when they have their family gatherings.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

Uhh, folks, in case you didn’t notice, Sotomayor’s comments are a rebuke to the Democrats, the left generally, and indirectly to Ginsburg.

You're right. She has proven to be a thoughtful liberal on the court - one who can understand and sometimes agree with the other side. She's not been the "Identity Politics" radical Obama must have assumed he was getting, and judging from her rare public commentary, seems to be a genuinely decent person.

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I vehemently disagree.  She is the worst of the worst.  I will take Breyer or Kagan any day over her.

With Ginsberg, she at least tries to put up a Constitutional argument.  Sotomayor never does.  It is always her opinion, and that opinion alone that drives her rulings.  She is an idealogue first and foremost, with zero regard to the Constitution of the United States of America.

Yeah and even after getting loaded the groping is all on her own.
