Here’s the list of military units headed to the border

The following military units are headed to the U.S.-Mexico border to meet President Donald Trump’s directive to deploy active duty forces through Texas, California, Arizona and New Mexico. DoD now reports more than 7,000 troops will be tasked to support the Department of Homeland Security.



Fort Bragg, North Carolina

    Headquarters & Headquarters Command, 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command
    2nd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division
    Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 16th Military Police Brigade

Actually they were two infantry battalions, probably three companies each. 

Both of these were helicopter battalions.  I don't know how that translates to the number of soldiers.

2nd listing under Fort Bragg is 2nd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division.  Doesn't that mean the 82nd Airborne which is under the 2nd AHB?  It doesn't mean the whole 2nd AHB is being deployed, right?

No, all logistical support units. A couple are just being temporarily detached from infantry divisions.

Think "crowd control,medical,transportation,and police units".

Nope,NONE were infantry units. The assault helicopter battalion is just going to be used for rapid transport. There will be NO cannon or rocket fire coming from them. They will be used to rapidly transport MP's to spots where crowd control is needed,and to rapidly transport injured GI's and illegal aliens to field hospitals.

Divisions do NOT come under Battalions. The 2nd AHB is support unit assigned to the 82nd Abn Division. The 82nd Abn Div is under the command of the 18th Airborne Corps.

There are NO direct combat units assigned to this mission. The closest thing will be the Military Police units who will be charged with maintaining control and guarding the illegals.

BTW,when I was in the Army,I hated the 503rd MP's worse than the NVA. Bunch of punk-ass bastards.

Does anyone know if any of the units have dogs?  My experience has been people from suppressive countries are deathly afraid of Sheperds or act alikes.

The MP's would be the only units with a reason to have dogs,and they would almost certainly be Shepherds of one type or another. Included in the MP's are the Air Police that the Air Force uses to guard and patrol landing strips. I seriously doubt those dogs or their handlers will be pulled away from guarding aircraft,though.

Special Operations units also have have dogs,but they won't be involved in this type of operation.
