Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts used Columbus Day to honor the country’s indigenous people rather than celebrate the anniversary of explorer Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas.

“Today we celebrate Native American communities, [and] the pride [and] resilience of people reclaiming their history [and] traditions,” Warren tweeted on Monday. “We honor the contributions that Native people make to a country that has taken so much [and] keeps asking for more. #IndigenousPeoplesDay”

  Even the "Native Americans" came from somewhere else.  I suggest you study how the different tribes treated each other.

They make anything Columbus did look like childs play.

In researching the indigenous Beothuk (who were in today's south east Canada when the Vikings landed 1000 years ago) I found they hung the heads of every animal they hunted in trees facing east so the animal's spirit could greet the rising sun.

Should we return to that too? Infest all the forests with deer, moose, elk, and bear skulls.

Along with killing our parents when they become too old and weak to keep up with the nomadic wanderings chasing live food animals.

How about using our wives as gambling stakes, lending them to our friends, or re-establishing that husbands have every right to beat them to death out of hand?

Thank goodness for INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY because I "are" one.  Choctaw Indian, about 1/16 of me.  Thanks to Warren for thinking of me.

@Victoria33 I is one too.  at about the same percentage as you.  Though my great grandmother is on the Indian rolls in Oklahoma.  The land she is supposed to have been granted when she was alive is unfortunately under Lake Oologah.

My Great Grandfather had a farm in Arkansas.  The Choctaw came through Arkansas to go to Oklahoma and stayed awhile in Arkansas.  Great Grandfather married one of the women.

Shhhh...keep that quiet. People aren't supposed to know that many Indian tribes were stone killers who took i.e. stole the land of other tribes while slaughtering many of them.
One of the most shameful incidents in our nation's history concerned the Sac Indians and Chief Black Hawk of whom a number of parks in my area are named after.
In 1832 BH's people were starving, so they left their reservation looking for food. They were chased by federal troops and they ended up near the Mississippi River not too far south of where I grew up.
They were attacked by the federal troops who caught them and started shooting everyone including women and children.
Some Sac Indians tried to escape across the Mississippi.  Unfortunately, waiting for them, along with federal gunboats,  was their arch enemy, the Sioux, who finished the job the federal troops started slaughtering as many Sac Indians as they could.
Neither side is blameless in our nation's history as far as cruelty and slaughter.
But to accuse the federal gov. of all the Indian problems and cruelty while ignoring the bitter feuds/wars between many Indian tribes does a disservice to history and the truth.
