George W. Bush to hit fundraising circuit for GOP candidates
BY JOHN BOWDEN - 09/11/18 08:24 PM EDT

Former President George W. Bush is set to headline several fundraisers for GOP candidates in the coming days across Florida and Texas.

Bush will make stops in Tampa and Palm Beach, Fla., on Friday to fundraise for Republican Senate nominee Rick Scott (R) in his bid to unseat Sen. Bill Nelson (D), The Palm Beach Post reports.

Scott's fundraiser in Palm Beach, billed as a $1,000 to $25,000-per-person private event at a yet undisclosed location, will jointly benefit Scott's campaign and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

“Gov. Scott is glad to accept the support of President Bush, Vice President Pence, and anyone who shares his views that we need to reform Washington. The governor appreciated the president endorsing his race when he came to Tampa in July,” Scott campaign spokesman Chris Hartline told the newspaper.

This is unexpected. I don't associate any of the Bush family with the GOP. Furthermore, I do not understand why they would want to help the midterms given their expressed animosity toward Trump.

This is likely more of a good thing than bad, but it is still a little strange.

It's probably just me and I know that no one gives a $hit, but I think a GWB appearance would help Cruz more than a Trump one would.

There are Trump supporters still repeating charges Trump the political novice made against Cruz in the primaries, even though it’s now clear there was no utterly substance to them. These folks are waiting for Trump to tell them is ok they can support Cruz now. Cruz probably would welcome their votes.

If GW campaigns with Cruz, it may sway some of the Left leaning Liberal voters who still call themselves Republicans which will currently probably vote Democrat.

This is a good thing.  Even if the Bush family is still angry because Jeb didn't get the nomination, I think GWB still cares about the country.

That family dynamic was interesting.  Jeb was the youngest, his mother's pet, and seemingly everyone's favorite even though he was not that attractive to the rest of the country.  I think the Bush family took his loss and his treatment by Trump deeply to heart.

But I don't know why they would resent Ted Cruz.  Admittedly, Ted won against a Texas establishment guy when he first won the Senate seat but people should be over that by now.

GWB? Just what everyone was clambering for. Maybe he can get a super tour going with John Boehner and Bob Dole.

GWB and his Lieutenant Rove actively tried to sabotage the Cruz campaign when he first ran for Senate in 2012.
Interesting history between the two, Ted writes about it in his book.

I respect President Bush and I might be receptive to his persuasion.  Anybody else angered at Dubya for campaigning for Republicans?  I'm curious who else is angry GWB was President and might taint the stellar record of our new savior.   I mean besides @sneakypete.
