Aug. 23, 2018

The Senate overwhelmingly passes a more than $800 billion spending package, as Congress seeks to avoid a possible government shutdown next month.

The bill passed in an 85-7 vote Thursday and will keep the Defense Department, Labor, Education and Health and Human Services funded through next year.

"Not included in the package is additional funding for the border wall, but Republicans hope the bill’s $20 billion increase to Defense spending and pay raise for troops will be enough to convince President Trump to approve it."

Will Trump send it back?

If he doesn't he will be seen as caving on his number one issue, AGAIN. The issue that got him elected. If
the Trump voters feel betrayed by Trump on immigration the GOP is toast.

I'd have to see how this compares to similar past spending bills to decide if he should.

With Thursday’s vote the Senate has now passed nine of the 12 appropriations bills needed to fund the government past Sept. 30. The $854 billion Labor-HHS-Defense-Education bill alone accounts for roughly 60 percent of the 2019 appropriations bills.

More money for the Defense Department?

As I see it, here's the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans:

Democrats will send us over the fiscal cliff ala Thelma and Louise, Republicans will send us over the fiscal cliff in a Conestoga wagon.

Fiscal reforms in entitlements, Social Security, and Defense are all necessary, but no one in DC will touch these, for obvious reasons.

The border wall is a unicorn.  Trump never told his supporters how he would push it through congress, because they never asked.  So he told you what you wanted to hear, and he got what he wanted from you.

Tax and spend, tax and spend.

Yup.  That is all the Republican Party under Trump will be remembered for.

And rightfully so... spending us to oblivion even faster than Obama and the Democrats did, and lying to get themselves into power whereby they then gave us all the middle finger and did none of what they promised.

While the hordes of party hacks and Trump acolytes jump through fiery hoops of twisted logic to explain to us all that none of that is either the GOP or Trump's fault.

There once was a time when congress was required to put together a budget and get it passed/signed. A constitutional requirement...

Not anymore. Not under Democrats. Not under Republicans.

A basic failure of constitutional fiscal duty.

Tell me again how Republicans are different than Democrats?

They're not.

But the simple fools lie to themselves to assuage their Normalcy Bias that they are somehow saving the country by casting a vote for a party and/or a king that they think is going to save them.

Question:  how can you build it without funding?

You think the contractors and property needed to be seized and used to build it are going to come for free?

The question I answered is whether or not Mexico would pay for the wall not necessarily who would fund the construction.  But you knew that already didn't you?

Again... who is going to fund the construction?   HOW exactly is Trump going to get Mexico to 'Pay for it'???

I'm sorry - but I do not trust anything that comes out of his mouth.  Where's the plan to fund the construction and then get Mexico to pay for it beyond political rally-rhetoric?

Tax and spend, tax and spend.

Waiting to see of this POTUS has the balls to send this back for reductions.

If not, he has fully reneged on his fiscal responsibility campaign promises.

No, that will be spun into blame factors and justifications for Trump needing to sign onto it - you know to get money to our troops.

Just like the last one was.
