Republicans Vote to Gut Enforcement, Increase Foreign Workers

The DHS funding bill shows the skewed priorities of GOP appropriators

The House Appropriations Committee this week approved the Department of Homeland Security funding bill for fiscal year 2019 (starting October 1, 2018), after considering a raft of amendments. This is not necessarily the final product; the bill will likely be amended further if and when considered by the full House of Representatives, and again when the House and Senate confer on reconciling their respective versions of the legislation.

Nevertheless, at this stage the DHS appropriations bill, passed Wednesday on a party-line vote of 29–22, is a snapshot of priorities of this most important committee. And it contains several harmful provisions that would increase illegal immigration and the importation of foreign workers on “temporary” visas — provisions passed with the support of the Republican chairmen of the full committee and its Homeland Security subcommittee.

Like Rome as it fell, the GOP , as the Democrats, WANT barbarians in our gates to be our 'servants' and to be a revenue stream for taxation to keep things like the SoSec ponzi scheme afloat until they are long gone and the consequences of their actions collapse everything wholesale.

And like Rome - the barbarians in our gates will sack us from within and create their own nation beholden to foreign enemies.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

These are the kinds of worthless backstabbing politicians Trump promised to clean the swamp of, useless Never Trumpers. He needs our support even more really.

H-1B and L visas are ostensibly temporary, but are widely used as stepping-stones to permanent immigration.

One of the candidates wanted to really expand the H-1B visas but I think rewrote another bill that would make a path to citizenship non-existent or difficult.

With all due respect....that sounds more like an old Aggie joke retrofitted.  Most "gringos" I know can handle picking fruit or produce just as well as the "seasonal fruit pickers".  And they don't require lengthy siestas in between picking...lol.
No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

Every year, Trump brings in foreign workers to his Florida golf place.  He has said he can't find Americans who want those jobs.  Sure.

Same here. Apricots. Hard friggen work but that or a paper route were the only ways for <16 year olds to make money.

Besides, there already is a program for seasonal agricultural workers. No need for any increase.

You were sure better than me. I worked the whole weekend and made just over a dollar.
I was pretty good at bucking 100 pound bales. We got ten cents a-piece.

If we truly can't find people legally here to pick our apples perhaps we should just forgo apples!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

My family were good at picking cotton. We also picked pears at bear Creek Orchard in Medford, Or. and almost starved. We then started picking pine cones and we did fine at that. Five bucks a burlap bag.

There are tricks to it that make you efficient... Folks don't generally stick around long enough to learn all that... Actually, I found it to be fairly pleasant work... Always in the shade...

Yep. ten cents a bale here too... I have bucked many a bale, and still do to a smaller degree. The boys are the ones that get it in the barn, I just get it into the critters...
