Exclusive—Buddy Carter Introduces Bill to Prevent Illegals from Stealing Americans’ Social Security Numbers

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Thursday about his new legislation that would prevent illegal immigrants from using Americans’ Social Security numbers, protect citizens’ privacy, and deter illegal immigration.

On Wednesday, Rep. Carter introduced H.R. 6333, Tax Identity Protection Act, which would direct the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to help protect Americans from illegal immigrants from fraudulently using their Social Security numbers.

Yes it is an outrage and hard to believe our Representatives have stayed silent this long while American identities have been stolen.  This should gain bipartisan support.  If it doesn't this information should be made public in a bigly way.

People would be shocked to learn the Social Security Administration doesn't consider these thefts to be a crime.  They only consider it a crime of somebody atempts to fraudulently obtain SS payouts with the stolen numbers.

It is illegal to use someone else's social security number to gain employment, run credit, etc..  But under the statute, you have to actually know that it is someone else's number.

The law should be changed so that using a fake number is illegal, regardless of whether or not it is assigned to another person.

A stupidly written law.  All a miscreant has to do is plead ignorance.

When one considers how ubiquitous SS numbers are, and all the doors those numbers can open to nefarious activity, penalties for using a fake number for any purpose should be very heavy.
