President Bush said after 911:
"They will hear from us"
They did.
Whats happening now is negating his accomplishments.

I read a book by Bob Woodward, about the Bush admin's response after 9/11/2001

From Bush to Rumsfeld to  the military top brass, they appeared to move too slowly and too tentatively, in my view.

Years later when Bush left unfinished wars in his wake, I was not surprised.

@Chosen Daughter

Can't disagree with Pres. Bush's attitude toward immigration.

Being inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, as I do with Pres. Trump, I searched for a practical reason.

Occam's Razor: The US was near zero population growth.  Something had to be done to replenish the Social Security vault.  And quickly.

The DEMS look at them as power.  The Republicans look at them as a labor pool.

Donald Trump views them as voters too.  Like America did with Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan...they will show loyalty to people who have made their lives better.  No matter, the ideology.

Early on, I recognized the government's complicity in how they welcomed illegal immigrants.  Both Pres. Bush and my state and county leadership didn't enforce immigration laws...so neither did I.

I grew very fond of them, watched their children grow and marry.

The Bush years were bountiful, both financially and emotionally.

I call that liberal.  And Bush was very liberal.  Sure wasn't Conservative, yet a war hawk.  So were the Clintons.  But how heart warming!  They have families and get married.  Have children and reward politicians that help them own businesses, get mortgages and have free everything!

What you say is true.  They have all allowed illegal immigration, and so do you support it.  Coming out was easy wasn't it?

What about loving American families?

Bush and his cotton picking moment.  We should get some real numbers on how many illegal immigrants own mortgages bought with ITIN's?  How many own businesses and what kind?  I assure you that they are not cotton pickers.  But sweet families.  I honestly wouldn't disagree.  They are human beings with families.  Family is good, but illegal immigration is bad.

Yes, I started noticing lots of things about the wars.  In Afghanistan the American supported government were letting Taliban prisoners go.  I will have to look it up but Americans still fighting and the terrorists they were fighting were being let go.  Then the Iraq oil.  Lots of foreign governments with their oil deals.  And the Islamic Constitution in Iraq.

Erasing borders in 2006 five years after 9/11.  Seems we would want to be more secure since many Middle Easterners cross our open border.

And this is crazy.  Bush knew the threat that was coming from the border by terrorists.

Saying anything negative about the guy was an insta-zot on freakrepublic circa 2004 or so.

Wait until Trump has been out of office for a while.  They'll turn on him, too.

I've always liked and defended George W. Bush and I still think he's basically a good man but just terribly, unforgivably naive about illegals.  He thought he could nation build in the Middle East.  That didn't work and it never will.

Those are primitive tribal people whose religion holds them back.  It will probably be hundreds of years before they can achieve any kind of good government.

But it really bugs me that Bush is speaking out now.  He kept quiet during all the disastrous Obama years.

I really wish he would not make me regret my loyalty to him.

@Emjay

Loyalty to politicians is not deserved and is a mistake.

Yes, ain't it funny?  Odd ....how GWB had no qualms or concerns... while Obama was orchestrating (with Mexico) the trainloads of unaccompanied illegal/migrant "children" from central and south America.  And only now he bleats up?  (so yeah... he's still dead to me)

@XenaLee

There is nothing even the tiniest bit odd about that. The political future of the Bush Crime Family is in the hands o Jorge Prescott Bush,AKA,"The Brown/Hispanic Bush"
Hell,they even taught him how to sorta speak Spanish so he could go into Mexico and campaign for his uncle the last time he ran for president.

Think about the context of THAT,and it all falls into line.

Yup,that was the day the BIG check to the Bush Crime Family from Saudi Arabia cleared.

The invasion of Iraq was about nothing more than making the Sauds safe. For that,tens of thousands of Americans were injured or killed. All for a bag of gold from the Sauds.

Never was anything of the sort.  No lockbox or vault, just spent along with the other Treasury monies collected.

Always has been a lie, and the sham accelerated under LBJ as he combined the revenues with other government receipts.
No punishment, in my opinion, is too great, for the man who can build his greatness upon his country's ruin~  George Washington

When Bush didn't hermetically seal off the US borders and all points of entry after 911, I was appalled. When he did the bailouts he lost me forever. Everything he's said lately and his chumminess with the Obamas confirms he's nothing more that an elitist one-worlder like his dad. He was the only choice in 2000 and 2004. I voted for him both times. Too bad we didn't have a conservative candidate.

IMO, it was Barbara Bush who demanded the Bush family stay on the high road, as Southern gentlemen, etc..

It was their opinion that history would treat GWB kindly.

You cannot blame GWB for what Pres. Obama did in Iraq.  He envisioned a stabilizing military force left in Iraq, as troops do today in Germany.

I suspected it was,but it doesn't matter. Non-PC truths need to be repeated over and over because there will always be somebody that doesn't know about it.

   All this GWB hate, hindsight is always 20/20.
   His only two halfway credible challengers in 2000 was McCain and Keyes, whom he rolled over.
   In 2004 he had no one up against him. So other than voting for Gore or Kerry, who were republicans gonna vote for?
   The GOP continued 'Stupid', as usual, with McCain and Romney in 2008 and 2012.
    Can't help but notice the Trumpers seem to relish is this revisionist shit about past GOP Presidential Candidates ignoring those among us that believe we faced the same $hit decision in 2016.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.
