MARIGOT, HAITI —

The U.S. State Department has called on all Americans in Haiti to remain indoors as violent protests in the capital continued over a government-ordered fuel price increase.

Protesters on Sunday burned tires in the streets of Port-au-Prince, and a nearby suburb, Petionville, looted stores, set fire to cars in front of luxury hotels and threatened to burn down the parliament building.

"Do not travel to the airport unless you confirmed your flight is departing," the U.S. State Department said in a warning posted on its website Sunday. "Flights are canceled today and the airport has limited food and water available." ...

The protests were ongoing even after Haitian President Jovenel Moise rescinded his administration’s decision to hike gas prices by 49 percent. ...

Before Moise rolled back his decision, the price of gas had been increased to $4.75 (309 Haitian gourdes) per gallon, more than twice as much as most Haitians' daily income.  ...  More at VOA News

Haiti unrest leaves US missionaries stranded
By Susannah Cullinane and Emanuella Grinberg, CNN

A number of US missionary groups are stranded in Haiti after protesters took to the streets following a fuel price hike ordered by the government.  ...

A youth group from Bradenton, Florida, that was scheduled to return from a missionary trip in Haiti is stranded until at least Monday, Executive Pastor Dewayne McFarlin said. The group from Bradenton's Woodland Community Church left Neply, Haiti, early Saturday for a 3 p.m. flight from Port-au-Prince International Airport, McFarlin said. Only a few miles into the approximately 30-mile journey, the group, which includes middle school- and high school-age children, encountered individuals demanding payment for access to the roadway, according to McFarlin.

They talked their way past the roadblock, but elected to turn around when they came to second group of individuals who had erected a blockade of burning tires on the road, McFarlin says. ...  More at CNN

The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is urging U.S. citizens to shelter in place due to ongoing protests and violence in the country’s capital.

“Due to continuing demonstrations, roadblocks, and violence across Port-au-Prince and throughout Haiti, U.S. citizens should continue to shelter in place,” the embassy said in an alert. “Do not travel to the airport unless you confirmed your flight is departing. Flights are cancelled [Sunday] and the airport has limited food and water available.”

The embassy further warned that due to issues with Internet and phone lines, it “may be difficult to reach people through normal communication methods.”

Embassy staff were also ordered to shelter in place.

At least four people have been killed in three days of protests against a steep hike in fuel prices imposed by the Haitian government on Friday. Protesters set alight cars and blocked roads in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and other towns.

Why anyone would want to ever be in that, yet another 3rd world S-hole, is beyond my comprehension or imagination.  There's not enough $$$ in the world to pay me to go there for ANY job, embassy or otherwise.
No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.
