Scott Pruitt's polarizing tenure as head of the Environmental Protection Agency has come to an end.

President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday that he has accepted Pruitt's resignation. Trump said that the agency's deputy administrator, Andrew Wheeler, will become the acting head of EPA.

Several things come to mind:

1) Nobody is irreplaceable. This position requires a person with a thick skin to handle Trump's agenda, and I am sure he can find another. Scott Pruitt was such a man but....

2) Scott Pruit unfortunately has shown himself to be quite contemptuous and frivolous with taxpayerâ€™s money. This does not look good for him, or the Trump administration.

3) His replacement ( for now ) is Andrew Wheeler. Have a look at his background here:

He didn't get a very good start out of the gates, with that ethically questionable waiver to Icahn's biofuel company.

There were laws such as the Rivers and Harbors Act which were intended to safeguard the environment long before the EPA. I think Nixon was trying to ride the popularity wave of the new Ecology (later hijacked and renamed environmental) movement. Merely balancing ecologies doesn't allow for the levels of control inherent in controlling the environment, which can include anything.

There is a type of person who simply cannot be given an expense account or a company card. For whatever reason, some people simply go insane and start eating out every night and leasing Ferraris. There is a mentality that simply cannot deal with it.

Pruitt was one of that type. He got an expense account and simply lost his mind.
