SANFORD, Maine — A car careened onto a field during a youth baseball game Friday night, striking and killing a man and sending screaming ballplayers and bystanders fleeing, police said.

Police said the car drove through an open gate at Goodall Park onto a ballfield, hitting Douglas Parkhurst, 68, of West Newfield, before attempting to speed away. Parkhurst died on the way to the hospital.

None of the players were injured.

The woman has some history of driving under the influence though, the police did not provide information regarding any alcohol or drugs in her system.

The man who died was a hero, trying to protect the children ;(.  Prayers for his family.

If I remember correctly, he killed a 4 year old many years ago.  Odd how that worked out.

Yes - fatally struck a girl in 1968 hit and run on Halloween.  Confessed in 2013.  No charges were filed.
