There were many sources for this months ago ....way before they were even engaged @mystery-ak   I don't know if those reports were wrong or scrubbed, but I can't find one source now either.

Either way, I never believed he was the love of her life.  For Harry this may be true, but not for her.  She convinced Harry a prenup wasn't necessary and he convinced the Queen, so I'm pretty sure she's thinking she's locked herself in for life.  (Can you believe it .... she's in without a prenup.  Think about that.)

I think she's played him--and the media--beautifully.   If Harry was one heartbeat closer to the throne, methinks the Queen would have stopped this.  Kate's third pregnancy may have made it possible for Meghan to become a Duchess.   ^-^

Reports are Harry really wants kids.  She's almost 37 so she's not got a lot of time to play the international feminist royal if she wants to start a family. I'll soften my opinion of her motivations if she gets pregnant during their first year of marriage.

Should we start a pool?

Prenups are different in the UK. Harry would not really need one if he wasn’t royal but still wealthy. Because he is royal she can’t lay claim to anything. For example, her engagement ring was bought with royal money and used Diana’s diamonds (on the sides). Markle could never keep it because it’s basically on loan to her. Her home, clothes, jewels, cars, staff, etc. are on loan from QE.

Good idea.  My women's intuition tells me she's already preggers.

That could explain why her wedding gown fit her so loosely and looked like it was too big.

The Queen had to approve of the marriage as a whole. Why she did, I have no clue.

Harry didn't need to marry this modern-day Wallis Simpson. The Queen didn't need to allow it. (This is not Prince Charles marrying a divorcee after his ex-wife died. That was forgivable. Marrying a Hollywood divorcee as a first choice? I would have thought that to be a disgrace to the Crown.)

If the wedding had to go through, I would have hoped that the Queen would bestow the millstone title of "Duke and Duchess of Windsor" upon the couple. Alas, she couldn't even do that. It appears now that the sanctity of monogamous marriage has now been abandoned even at the height of royalty.

But hey, it's the 21st century. Who cares about such quaint notions?

Quaint notions indeed.  Stupid idiocies best left in the dustbin of history, is more like it.

LOL, I should have taken a photo of my wife. She got up at 3AM, put on a nice dress, hat, and heels, ate cake and drank Champaign.

From what I've read about British divorce it's basically you get to take back what you brought with you, if that makes any sense. If there would be a divorce, it's up to the queen to decide what Markle gets in terms of homes, staff, etc., since it belongs to the queen to begin with. For example, QE gave living quarters and a few other perks to Diana after the divorce from Charles. She didn't have to give anything to Diana, but the publicity would have been horrendous, to say the least.

First of all, that is extremely unlikely, since Meghan is mostly anglo.  And, I think the English would be ecstatic - it would show how trendy and open minded they are.

I can't recall what Fergie got when she and Andrew divorced. But by then Andrew was no longer in line to the throne.

Piers Morgan has a great column today regarding  Meghan saying she is a feminist.   A so called feminist who quit her career to be married and become a stay at home mom.

Well...it's an interesting photo.  I'm so fond of William and Kate, but, I haven't warmed up to this marriage. It seems a lot of hype and media coverage surrounded the wedding.  Yes he's a 'royal' by blood but he's 6th in line to the throne ... never going to see the throne unless there is some kind of tragedy that hits his brother William's entire family.

Can they make up their minds?  It looks like a stud to me, but sorry, I don't think there's a chic way to wear one.

@CatherineofAragon

I will have a commemorative plate soon.  Son will send me one.  Have those plates for the royal family going back through the generations.  Also have teacups/tea pots from their times.  I was into glass/porcelain all my life - my house looks like a museum from around the world as I went from country to country, collecting glassware and cups/teapots and commemorative plates. Been to Monte Carlo twice and brought back commemorative plate of wedding of  Prince Rainier and Princess Grace.

We collect things all our lives because we like them, like to see them, appreciate them as art.  Early glassware made in this country is beautiful.  When the east coast was settled, people needed glassware so Westmorland was one of the first to come to the east coast and make glassware. They brought with them a cast of Queen Victoria's hands and reproduced them in a cupped position in milk glass. I have one of those - her hands were tiny.

@Victoria33, I'd love to see that.  She had a very small stature, didn't she?

If I were in London recently I would have probably bought all kinds of commemorative stuff, lol.

For those who disliked the gown I say boo!

Remember Diana's? The only ugly dress she ever wore in her life was her weeding dress

@Victoria33
@CatherineofAragon
@mystery-ak

BBC has an American catalog with lots of royal merchandise for sale. Top quality stuff. Wedge wood.
Royal DOulton. Etc. Then tea towels, tea cozies, food like cookies in commerative tins.

It's got really nice things.

@Freya

Hmmm   :pondering:

Diana's dress was really bad.  The train was nice, though.

A friend of mine with English ancestry visits there now and then, and every time she comes away with more Wedgwood.

I just saw a snippit on a photography forum.

The official photographer charged about $38,000.

To put that in comparison, the average US wedding photography runs around $2,500.

Considering the logistics, I'm actually a bit surprised it was that cheap. For something that size, he would have an entire team working at a crazy pace.

I think this "messy bun" is her signature look @mystery-ak   She wore it for the evening reception, too.  Although why this would take 45 minutes and a sylist to do is anyone's guess.  Give me a hair clip from CVS, 15 seconds ... and Viola!   :laugh:

@Right_in_Virginia

I can't even get my hair to stay up; it's too heavy.  I once had a clip spring loose from the stress and almost hit someone in the face, lol.
