Bacause we are one nation. Because the prosperity of one region helps fuel the prosperity of all.
There are a lot of boondoggle, pork barrel projects. The replacement of century-old tunnels into Manhattan Island, the citadel of American capitalism, is not one of them.
The region where I live used to be a steel and manufacturing center. In recent years, it has become a technology hub. Google, Uber and a bunch of others have a strong presence here. Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh is providing the brilliant minds to develop this technology. We contribute the technology which helps make this nation prosperous.
Yet, this area's share of federal government funding for transportation declines every year. Then region has some of the worst roads and bridges in the nation.
I'm tired of seeing my tax dollars go to DC, New York and other major cities, while my area gets crumbs. Seems to me if New York is so prosperous, it can pay for its own roads and bridges. Maybe Trump, being a New Yorker, can contribute to the project out of his supposed billions. Let the rest of the nation, which also contributes to the prosperity of this nation have its fair share.
By the way, I'll bet dollars to donuts this proposed New York/New Jersey project will be something akin to those shovel-ready jobs con games Obama and the Democrats poured untold amounts of taxpayer dollars into -- with nothing to show for it.
