Just a curiousity of mine. How do "conservatives" know that ALL movies are crappy, if they don't view them?

I am careful. But my wife and I do dinner-movie nights out and we enjoy ourselves. Have done so for 50+ years of marriage.

"La La Land" was essentially an old school musical romance movie. "Get Out" was freaky. "Orient Express" was a let down. "Wind River" was great. "Only the Brave" was outstanding. "Dunkirk" depicted war with big screen sound, fury and violence. "Darkest Hour" was my favorite. "Hostiles" was America's West in the 1890s. "The Post" was interesting.

That is approximately the last year. Our favorite venue is the "Lido Theater," an original art deco building used continuously from the 1930s.

It's called taking a sample. If you do, like I have done, watch a number of the so-called modern "great" movies and find them severely wanting, you tend to be skeptical of anything coming out of Hollyweird.
There are some good modern movies I've seen i.e. Dunkirk/ Slumdog Millionaire, but they're few and far between.
Until about twenty years ago, I used to go to a lot of movies.  Then sometime in the nineties after watching yet another dull flick in the movie theater, I started wondering what was going on.
Why was it that I could watch and enjoy movies from just a decade or earlier before but now I was being bored out of my skull?
Then I analyzed many new, modern flicks and found them full of p.c. themes. There had to be x number of minorities, females, homosexuals, etc.  Many new movies were distinctly anti traditional America or anti-conservative in their tone. Many movie makers weren't making movies to entertain, they were preaching their politics.
Add to the explosion of  cgis, which I abhor, and I simply distrust the ability of modern filmmakers to make good films as good as they used to be.

Not everyone but there are people that make such statements that all movies today are crap, yet spend a lot of time in front of their TV watching them. Even today in messed up Hollywood full of messed up people good movies do occasionally get released. And we should be smart enough to avoid the rest.

What stuff the wife and I have watched from Hollyweird and enjoyed was usually the premium cable channel series like "The Sopranos" "Dexter" "Ray Donovan" and cable tv shows like "Breaking Bad" "Fargo" "Better Call Saul" "Justified" and a few others.  We regarded those series, even with their faults, as far superior to a number of the Hollyweird movies we started watching and quit after less an one half hour because we were bored or disgusted.
The wife also liked "Homeland," but I thought it was not too good. I noticed the  anti-American sentiment steadily creeping into the episodes. Plus, the star was crying half the time. I can't stand constantly bawling protagonists.
I liked "24" but I haven't seen the last two years worth.  I love seeing terrorists getting killed. The first five series were pretty good.

Jerry Falwell had a comment along those lines, I think he was asked about porn.  "You don't need to pull the lid off of a sewer to know it stinks."

I've seen enough recent flicks, including Birdman, to know they don't make movies like they used to.  I don't intend to take a chance on another new movie.  I don't have lots of money to throw around.

To be fair, Hollyweird always churned out a lot of dogs along with the gems. Except it seems today there's a much higher quotient of dogs. And you weren't hammered over the head with anti-American, p.c. crap in the old days.

There are a few exceptions, but my favorite movies as of late have been foreign made movies. Generation War, Land of Mine, Zookeeper's Wife, Sophie Scholl- The Final Days, and I think Dunkirk was also foreign, but not sure.

And as a family  the most enjoyable movie for all of us, and the only new one we can't wait till it is available for home viewing, is the latest Jumanji.

WALSH: Christians, If We Hate Hollywood So Much Maybe We Should Actually Stop Watching Its Filth
ByMatt Walsh
March 5, 2018

Hollywood is a cesspool of filth and stupidity. This is not news to anyone.

Last night, the industry gave its top award to a love story about a woman and a fish monster. It also handed an award to "Call Me By Your Name," a romance about a grown man and a teenage boy. The majority of the nominated films were some combination of idiotic, depraved, and pointless. "Darkest Hour" and "Dunkirk" are notable exceptions here.   ...

Why do we Christians and conservatives, who complain constantly about Hollywood, still give Hollywood so much of our time and money? Without us, the industry couldn't stay in business. We are the ones who keep it afloat. Sure, we generally avoid films like "Call Me By Your Name" and the like, but do you think the "50 Shades" franchise made a billion dollars just based entirely on ticket sales from liberals? Do you think "The Walking Dead" became the biggest show in cable history because of atheists? Do you think the idiotic sitcoms get their ratings without us? Do you think the nihilistic "prestige dramas" survive by appealing only to professed nihilists? The average American spends five hours a day watching TV. Do you think that number is any lower for Christians?  ...   More at the Daily Wire
