Sheriff: Armed officer at school never entered building during shooting

The armed officer stationed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., resigned Thursday after an internal review found he did not enter the school during last weekâ€™s deadly shooting.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel announced deputy Scot Peterson chose to resign after Israel suspended him without pay.

â€œScot Peterson was absolutely on campus through this entire event. He was armed. He was in uniform,â€ Israel said at a press conference.

â€œAfter seeing video, witness statements and Scot Petersonâ€™s very own statement, I decided this morning to suspend [him] without pay pending an internal investigation,â€ he continued.

Israel said Peterson chose to resign as he had met the necessary requirements for retirement. The sheriff noted that the investigation would continue.

All the systems were in place but it looks like they all failed...a mentally ill 19yo beat them all.

Sad that the shooter lived to be captured. Now, he will not even do any real time over this.

He will be tucked away in some secure sanitarium somewhere living on the government dime for the rest of his life.

But it is noticeable that info like the video delay and the scared security guard are being released. We still have no idea what happened in Vegas. And even now months later, all the details like the hotel video there is still being covered up. And the hotel security guard there is still in hiding or he got 'disappeared'. He's still not saying a word.

LOL. Chicken shit cop lets 17 kids get murdered and he still gets his pension. Can't wait to give up my guns so that I can rely on these corrupt pieces of human debris to protect me.

I am not aware of evidence yet, he was/is mentally ill. Obviously that is the common speculation. (The Aurora theater mass murderer was found to be mentally competent to stand trial, I recall). Besides, I am not certain what effect being "mentally ill," has on such circumstances these days.

The failure of this single officer, must be added to the FBI's failure to respond to 2 separate notifications, and local LE's failure to take action on 39 separate calls.

This corrupt wise assed Sheriff down there said he was happy the chicken cop took his retirement in a press conference. The way he said it basically said that as far as he is concerned the matter is closed and it is back to pushing gun confiscations.

For all I know they will throw him a retirement party before he leaves.

At Sandy Hook where all those kindergarteners died. There was a cop who arrived within 1/4 mile with 90 seconds. That was after the guy broke in but before he started on the kids. He stopped and waited for 10 mins until more troops arrived.

That's how they are trained.

It is silly as can be to rely on anyone to protect you.
Nine times out of ten, for all the systems, plans, and manpower, LEOs will arrive too late to save anyone, and likely to late to catch the perpetrator.

I know. A shocking truth to those in suburbia who are guarded more by numbers and statistics than any of their systems. Thus the impenetrable herd mentality.

Country folks are not shocked. Reality remains, day to day. That is why we require, and in fact, insist upon, the means to defend ourselves.

Contemplate that before angling for more useless gun controls.

Video footage showed Officer Peterson arriving at the building where the shooting was taking place about 90 seconds after the first shots were fired and that he remained outside for about four minutes. The attack lasted six minutes.

I haven't read anywhere his side..did he try to go in..I just can't imagine standing there listening to all those shots and not doing anything....4mins was a lifetime for 17 souls....

Yeah he doesn't look like the type to die for his cause.

This sheriff needs to get control of his department. This is the same Sheriff's department that had to suspend one of the deputies for recording on his cell phone the security footage of the Ft Lauderdale airport shooting and subsequently leaked it to TMZ.
