Mueller may move beyond collusion to charge Trump — and a constitutional clash will follow

Critics say money laundering charge would exceed mandate in case against Trump

 By Dan Boylan - The Washington Times - Thursday, January 11, 2018

Any move by special counsel Robert Mueller to go beyond collusion and obstruction of justice to probe possible money laundering by President Trump and his family could trigger a major constitutional clash — and present Congress with a massive political headache.

With nearly eight months gone by and some $7 million spent on Mr. Mueller’s Russia probe, speculation is mounting over when, whether and how the former FBI director might attempt to charge President Trump with a crime.

While sources say Mr. Mueller is “obsessed” with examining Mr. Trump’s network of business interests for potential money laundering infractions, there is a raging debate among legal scholars over whether that actually falls within the special counsel’s mandate.

At that point, that's where Sessions needs to step in to remind that he only recused himself on Russia, and that any inestigation by Mueller outside that will be shut down.

People seem to be forgetting Ken Starr was appointed to investigate Whitewater.  Many were indicted and convicted through the investigation.  However, what got Clinton impeached had nothing to do with the original subject.

Which was why I was never for it. Clinton was corrupt, but the 'perjury' charge over sexual matters as a reason for impeachment was BS.

The worst part is that it opened the door for fishing expeditions and witch hunts like what Mueller is doing now, and what happened to Scooter Libby. I do not like giving any bureaucrat that kind of unbounded power considering how much of the slippery slope we've already traveled down.

Lol!  You're kidding, right?   Sessions is obviously "in on it".  He will continue to go after pot-smokers.... studiously avoiding any OTHER issue that needs his attention.  (my prediction)

I truly don't expect him to do much of anything. I'm just hoping he would and that he should, but that's likely all it will ever amount to.

Don't forget expanding civil asset forfeiture, Sessions has a major hard-on to expand the Highwaymen Program, so government and all law enforcement agencies can rape and pillage without so much as a citation outside of a spurious charge that your stuff was probably gained by drug money.

I listened to Levin last night for a bit.  He laid out a very detailed timeline of events leading up to the FISA warrant apparently based on the Steele report, and fit Sessions recusal into it.

Oh yeah.   Sessions has definitely been compromised.   Not sure if he previously had any integrity... but he sure as hell doesn't now.   A scenario that I have observed concerning MANY folks I wrongly trusted in the past.

I still like Levin and usually listen to him at least for the 1st hour every day.  But I do get ticked off at him when he's in a snit and gets rude to non-leftie callers.   Love it when he is rude to the leftie ones though..... :whistle:

I always felt Sessions was among the very best. I have been disappointed. My current take is this: Sessions is an example of the Peter Principle.

He is simply in over his head. the big, complicated FedGov is simply more than he can navigate within effectively.

Hence little bites, like his MJ vendetta, instead of BIG bites at Clinton/Obama corruption.

They haven't forgot, they are ignoring the fact. Mueller has a right to pursue any crime he runs across during his investigation. I have mentioned money laundering several times in regards to the Trump and Kushner family. I would not be surprised at all by this. But heaven forbid if Mueller finds any criminal activity by the Trump family. Trump's supporters would rather not know about it and actually probably don't really care.
