Nikki Haley warns UN: Americans don't want to 'pay for the privilege of being disrespected'
by Joel Gehrke | Dec 21, 2017, 11:39 AM

World leaders rebuking the United States at the United Nations shouldn’t expect the American people any longer to “pay for the privilege of being disrespected,” U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley warned Thursday.

“In the case of the United States, we are asked to pay more than any other nation for that dubious distinction,” Haley told the UN General Assembly. “We have an obligation to demand more for our investment. And if our investment fails, we have an obligation to spend our investment in more productive ways.”

Haley’s protest came amid a debate over a resolution condemning President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The measure was taken up during an emergency session of the assembly, which U.S. officials have long accused of harboring an unjust hostility toward Israel.

Damned right we don't!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

The UN vote was 128 against the US; 9 for the US; 35 abstentions, including Canada and Mexico.

But only nine states – including the United States and Israel –voted against the resolution. The other countries which supported Washington were Togo, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Marshall Islands, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Another 21 delegations were absent from the vote, suggesting the Trump’s warning over funding cuts and Israel’s lobbying may have had some effect.

Apparently the thinking goes like this:

"There are some profoundly awful nations, but we must subsidize, placate and accommodate them, lest they behave even worse." Oh, and feed many of their starving peasants. Hunter-gatherers. Violent muslim terrorists. Brutal communist regimes.

I think today under direction of President Trump, Haley said what most real conservatives have felt for decades.

Do muslim terrorists NOT attack, because of the good works of the UN? Seriously? Does North Korea NOT shoot practice missiles, because of the good work of the UN?

Canada to abstain from UN vote condemning Trump Jerusalem move

The gutless leftie Canadians perch on that fence, still.  Some day somebody's probably gonna knock them off... and the US might not be around to pick them up.

We are surrounded by potential enemies, north and south.  And considering how generous the US has always been .... one has to wonder where it will all end.

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of it.

I had serious doubts about Nikki Haley, but I'm happy to admit I was wrong.  She's doing great.

I found it interesting that 21 states avoided being there altogether. It would be interesting to find out who they are. They’re probably the ones that get large aid packages.

If I was Trump, I would rapidly put teeth into this.

--Cancel any and all aid to hunter-gather societies.

--Cancel any and all aid to drug dealing nations.

--Cancel any and all aid to muslim terror supporting nations.

--Cancel any and all aid to nations that are belligerent to their peaceful neighbors.

Consider abstentions and absences as being against our position.

--Add as necessary.

--Move the UN Hq. to light industrial concrete tilt ups in Detroit's suburbs.

I’m not sure why it’s anybody’s business but our’s (and Israel’s) where we put our embassy.  Hopefully, this won’t be an idle threat, and the Trump Administration will indeed yank funding from the UN over this vote.

A nation has the right to decide where their capital is.  Did we object when the Germans moved their capital from Bonn to Berlin?

So what they are really saying is that they don't really believe that Israel is a nation.

Of course.  And I think we have the right to recognize anyone we want as a nation.  If the Trump Administration insists on threatening to yank funding to the UN, hopefully, they'll really do it and this isn't just an idle threat because they didn't like being condemned.

Exactly. They're supporting the notion that what is now "Israel" really belongs to the imaginary Palestine.

Abstain is a no vote except for the intense pressure they’re under to vote yes. I heard 35
abstained. Alongside the 9 noes, that’s not too bad considering the track record of the UN.

XenaLee wonders:
"We are surrounded by potential enemies, north and south.  And considering how generous the US has always been .... one has to wonder where it will all end."

Canada is worth invading and annexing as part of the United States.
Mexico... not so much.

(And I'm serious about the Canada part!)
