New Orleans Agency Facing Audit For Federal Funds Spent After Katrina

New Orleans’ Sewage and Water Board is being audited for federal dollars spent during recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina.

The audit was announced at a committee meeting Monday, after the Department of Homeland Security sent a letter to the agency.

The audit will investigate whether the board used federal funds appropriately.

The mayor claims the audit is standard practice and does not suggest the board mismanaged the funds.

The agency has faced scrutiny for its handling of the city’s storm drainage system after broken water pumps caused severe flooding last summer.

Another example is the Houston area after both Ike and Harvey.
Difficult to tell anything happened here, but not in New Orleans.

The issue in NOLA seems to be, a crapton of money was spent after Katrina to bring the pumping systems back up to the expectation they could keep the city from flooding, and this past summer's storms have cast doubt on the effectiveness of the repairs.
