Mexico Presidential Race Roiled as Leftist Front-Runner Embraces Right Wing Party

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - The front-runner in Mexico's 2018 election has embraced a small, socially conservative party in his bid for the presidency, sparking criticism among progressives that could splinter his support in what is expected to be a tight race.
Earlier this week, two-time presidential runner-up Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador entered into a coalition with the Social Encounter Party (PES), a tiny party with religious roots that pushes an anti-gay and anti-abortion agenda.
The coalition is led by Lopez Obrador's left-of-center MORENA party and also includes the socialist-leaning Labor Party.

This is interesting, a Leftist will embrace a social conservative party.
At least, with Mexico, I don't think their federal government is funding agencies like Planned Parenthood. That's one plus. The country is probably too poor to do something like that, maybe too Catholic as well. On the other hand, the UN gets into the business of these countries, maybe there is some government-backed birth control there. They seem to have larger problems at the moment.
This fellow who could become the President is named Obrador. In Mexico, there is a long history of corruption in the government, so though, this Obrador is a leftist, for whatever that means in general, maybe he's what they need.
