@Neverdul

If we could be forced to do this then we could be forced to honor some future socialist state.

Sort of like the Pledge of Allegiance?

https://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/whats-conservative-about-pledge-allegiance

In recent years I’ve been questioning whether or not I, as a free citizen, really wants to recite the Pledge Of Allegiance given its "socialist" origins and history not to mention how the “One Nation Under God” was added rather recently.

Yup. But that's not what Moore said. He should have a lock on the race but he's in danger of throwing it away.

Moore needs to quit while he's ahead.  But he can't.  He's like Trump ... can't shut his mouth.

I hope he wins anyway.

This is found under Title 36 which aren't laws but things like proclimations and even things like floral design and informal holidays like Leif Erickson day or national potato day. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/36/subtitle-I/part-A

Congress has taken upon itself to pass much more than legislation. They make proclimations, guidelines regarding floral arrangements and emblems on federal property, and even days observing trivial matters- none of which are law. The flag code and anthem guidelines are found with these under Title 36.

They are the legislative branch.   I think by definition,  anything they pass is "law."

From the etymology dictionary.

legislator (n.)
"a lawgiver, a maker of laws," c. 1600, from Latin legis lator "proposer of a law," from legis, genitive of lex "law" (see legal (adj.)) + lator "proposer," agent noun of latus "borne, brought, carried"

Most of what I see discussed on this forum is trivial nonsense like this.    If I was a moderator that locked "boring"  threads,  I'd lock half the threads on this website.

Why don't you become a moderator?

Then you won't keep whining about boring threads, and you'll have the power to lock them.

How are those not "law", @AbaraXas?

In any case, the code says "should" stand...it doesn't say "shall" stand.  Moore needs to learn how to stop shooting his mouth off without the facts behind it.

If I keep mentioning it,  I think in the fullness of time you might catch on to what I'm about.

It's certainly gone over your head at least twice now.

Carry on with the whining stuff.  It's fun.

I believe what he said was factual,  though only by a technicality.

Isn't modern law more or less a collection of technicalities now?

A proclimation or guideline are not laws by the legal definition. This is no more a law than August 19th being national Potato day is a law.

Here is the legal definiton of a law.

https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/law

A long list but key point highlighted.

Quote
In U.S. law, the word law refers to any rule that if broken subjects a party to criminal punishment or civil liability. Laws in the United States are made by federal, state, and local legislatures, judges, the president, state governors, and administrative agencies.

The guidelines found under Title 36 dont meet this key point of the legal definition of a law, therefore they aren't a law.

This actually has come up in the Supreme Court as part of Texas v Johnson in regards to the Flag Code- these codes are not law by definition and therefore can't be enforced.

Socialist origins, indeed. The problem I see is that children are pledging allegiance to whatever government becomes.

Maybe not.

People are really disgusted.  I just watched the Roger Goodell presser and talk about a waffler.  He's deathly afraid of expressing an opinion.  He's afraid of the Black activists because most of the players are Black and probably in sympathy with them.

He's afraid of a declining audience for football.  One of the questioners said only 3% of the NFL audience are democrats.  Don't know if that's true or not.

Jerry Jones is the only guy with courage in this whole fiasco.

Roger let this get out of hand when it could have been stopped in its tracks.

Now he doesn't have a clue what to do.  What a pathetic wanker.

But a guy celebrates a touchdown by hitting a boxing thingee and he's penalized.  How stupid.

Yeah, Jerry Jones, after he sees it is hurting his bottom line and he got some tax dollars help to build Jerry-land. A regular profile in courage.

Preferable to anyone the Dems run. But first he has to win the election.

Apparently you missed Jones kneeling with his team about a week after claiming anyone who did it would be booted.

Well, you're not, so you're going to have to click on them and voluntarily suffer them, or pass them by.

When you get down to it, that's really one good thing about this site over a certain other. The mods here treat members like adults and don't try to control what they think is important. They just let discussions go as long as they don't cross the trolling/attack line. They treat members like adults.

The opposite of political correctness is not being an ass. Political correctness implies a lack of respect for the other person's opinion so you try to stifle it. The opposite of political correctness is acting respectfully. Being an ass is just another form of political correctness- trying to shut the other person down through various forms of intimidation. IMHO, being an ass is a crude form of political correctness, like a lib screaming someone is a homophobe or racist for disagreeing.

Yep.  TOTALLY agree.  The respect for others here is a top-down thing, and the Mods reflect mystery's ideal........ (MOST of the time!).

I'm not sure any other forums operate this way, and that's why I love it here.

(btw, I was joking about Dio's being a Mod.  He just keeps griping, so I was razzing him a bit  ^-^).

The funny part was he didn't kneel during the anthem, but before it, then stood for the anthem- yet people said it wasn't good enough. I was waiting for the demands that every had be over the heart, a solemn expression, and a tear in the eye to be good enough.

I wonder how many who were screaming though, when they are watching the game at their favorite sports bar, have their own ass firmly planted in there seat, with a mouth full of beer and nachos while the anthem is played- then only jump up to express outrage that a player didn't stand.
