Obama Library Will Have Basketball Court, No Papers

This seems only fitting. A library without papers is like a president with no character. How better to remember Obama?

    Once the Obama Presidential Center is constructed, it will have a children’s play garden, sledding hill, green spaces for picnics and outdoor gatherings, basketball courts and even a recording studio, officials have said.

    But what the space won’t have is all of former President Barack Obama’s manuscripts, documents, letters and gifts he collected during his time in office. While the Presidential Center is about four years from opening, a conversation has begun about what the facility will mean to scholars and to local research universities without those items.

This thing is being built in Southside Chicago, one of the most dangerous places in the country. All Black, of course.


I would bet money that the building will have no glass or windows anywhere. And a year after construction, it will be covered with graffiti and street trash.


The article talks about 'academics' going there to study Obama. That is not a prudent idea. If you are going to Southside Chicago, you better be armed. Some Pollyanna nincompoop from California would get eaten alive down there. "Academics" have no place in Southside, unless they are bringing an armed escort with them.


It is a war zone. You may as well decide to 'take a walk' in downtown Iraq.

It's not true there will be no papers there!  It will have all the articles he wrote for Harvard Law Review when he was in charge of it.

Unlike traditional presidential libraries, the Obama Presidential Center will not actually have library materials. That is—it will not house former President Obama’s manuscripts, documents, letters, and gifts from his tenure in office—items presidential centers around the country all have.

Instead, it will include space for outdoor functions and picnics, a basketball court, recording studio, sledding hill, children’s play garden, and more.

As for the actual library documents, the center will rely online archives for Obama’s presidential materials as a way to avoid meeting federal standards in construction, raising money for an endowment, and paying the National Archives and Records Administration to run the facility.

I keep coming back to this thread and shaking my head.  I guess anyone who expects Obama to release any documentation is a fool or some blind optimist.  He has released nothing in his life, not from school, not from college, not from his state senate term, not from his US senate term and now not from his presidential terms. 

The comedy circuit should be able to make a living off of this for years, but no one will even mention it.

You're exactly right, Rose. Obama has gone through life without a footprint. His entire academic history is a vapor. His entire record of professional achievement is an illusion. He sailed through "public service" by voting "present." And as president, his biggest accomplishment was ... permitting men in women's rest rooms and unaffordable health insurance? What is there to document, exactly?
