President Trump and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) will seek a deal to do away with future votes to raise the debt ceiling, according to a Washington Post report.

The president proposed the idea of scrapping the debt ceiling altogether during a meeting with GOP and Democratic congressional leaders on Wednesday, saying the votes to raise the limit were unproductive.

Schumer, Trump and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) agreed to work together over in the coming months on a plan to do so, the Post reported.

President Trump and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) have agreed to pursue a deal that would permanently remove the requirement that Congress repeatedly raise the debt ceiling, three people familiar with the decision said.

Trump and Schumer discussed the idea Wednesday during an Oval Office meeting. The two, along with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D–Calif.), agreed to work together over the next several months to try to finalize a plan, which would need to be approved by Congress.

One of the people familiar described it as a "gentlemen's agreement."

Senate Democrats hope they will be able to finalize an arrangement with Trump by December.

"The president encouraged congressional leaders to find a more permanent solution to the debt ceiling so the vote is not so frequently politicized," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

Take the lid off and let these irresponsible putzes blow the whole thing up.

Faster that happens the sooner we can get around to settling accounts and rebuilding from the rubble.

The "debt ceiling" has proven utterly ineffective in preventing the D.C. Den of Thieves from pilfering the Treasury.

The reason is because that by the time the so-called "ceiling" must be raised, the money it incorporates has already been spent.

Thus, any attempt to stop an increase in the debt ceiling is meaningless from a fiscal standpoint, and potentially catastrophic from a financial one.

Ultimately, the only way to stop the money merry-go-round is to legally constrain Federal spending so that the debt limit does not have to be raised in the future.

I know: good luck with that.

They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

As much as I harp about the debt, I do get tired of this constant kabuki every 12-18 months. At best you might get a shutdown for awhile then things resume as they were. The Dems have negotiated a debt ceiling vote along with budget negotiations in December. It looks like they may use that as an opportunity to try and scrap it all together.

I'm to the point of forget the debt ceiling and just let the Prez and Congress negotiate the budgets, then suffer the consequences of their decisions good or bad. Tired of the can kicking and foot dragging. Let's either fix it or let it all go to hell.
The Republic is lost.
