As people age, their arteries become stiffer and less elastic. New research indicates distance running does not cause these artery problems, despite previous debate on the matter. (For Spectrum Health Beat)

New research may allay concerns that long-distance running could harm the heart.

Marathoners are not at increased risk for narrowing or hardening of the arteries, also known as atherosclerosis, a German study says.
