Poll: Georgia special election tied

By Elena Schneider

06/13/2017 08:57 AM EDT

A new SurveyUSA poll for 11Alive in Atlanta found that Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel are tied at 47 percent in Georgia's special House election, one week from Election Day.

Another 6 percent of voters are still undecided in the poll, as Ossoff and Handel jockey to replace HHS Secretary Tom Price in Congress. Most recent public polling has shown Ossoff with a slight lead, but both candidates insist that this race is "neck and neck," as Ossoff said this weekend.

Ossoff leads among young people by a 3-to-2 margin and among newcomers to the state. Handel leads by the same 3-to-2 margin among seniors and longtime Georgia residents.

From +7 Dem to tied in a week. How interesting.
The Republic is lost.

Maybe that "pretty boy" act tOssoff isn't playing with the remaining conservative in that district.

I guess it'll all depend on who actually comes out to vote, the old folks or the youngsters with heads full of mush.

Doesn't surprise me in the least.  I know how polling works and the reasons for it being done.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Very true. Polls always narrow at the end because the pollsters don't want to lose credibility by being wildly wrong. Before that though they skew things to influence opinion, not record it.

Even so, this big of collapse of mojo a week out is not a good omen for the Dem.

It's three different polling firms since June 5, ranging from a 7 point deficit to a tie.  Karen Handel should not have problems here.  Tom Price garnered 60-65% of the vote since redistricting; Romney got 61%.

And I personally don't think she will have much of a problem at the end of the day.
