Report: Trump Poised to Reverse Obama's Cuba Policies

President Trump is set to roll back a series of policies former President Obama put in place toward Cuba, according to a report from the Daily Caller.

The changes regarding the policies will be announced in a June speech in Miami, the U.S.-Cuba Trade and Economic Council said in the report.

For years I was an advocate of the embargo Cuba mindset.   After further consideration,  I now think there are actual benefits to engagement.   It was the effect of Western movies and access to Western products behind the Iron curtain that convinced me the key to success is to show the victims of communism what they are missing.   



Discontent in Cuba is kept  under control because the people are deprived of the knowledge of how much better are the lives of Americans than are theirs.    Letting them become familiar with American wealth and privilege is one sure fire way to stir discontentment with communism.   


We have seen this event over and over again in the past.   Communist people being confronted with the reality of western plenty has a shocking effect on them.    It was a grocery store that convinced Yeltsin that communism was absolutely the wrong way to govern.   It was Chuck Norris movies sneaked into Romania that toppled Ceausescu.   

It was exposure to trade with the United States that has convinced China to go capitalist economically.   


As much as I hate the idea of not embargoing Communist Cuba,  the path to improvement lies in interaction and trade with them.


This is one policy Obama got accidentally right.  Again,  an example of someone doing something correct,  but for all the wrong reasons.

Venezuela’s puppet dictatorship is being run out of Havana by a regime that is not only willing but is quite happy to murder thousands of innocent people to ensure they remain in power.

The Cuban trade embargo has been a fifty-plus year exercise in futility. The Castro regime should not be rewarded for its behavior. But the embargo has not really served as a punishment, has it?

I have thought for a long time now that it would make more sense to blast the Cuban people (who are truly terrific people, if you have ever known any) with more news, information, goods and services than they ever had reason to know existed, just out of their reach.

Yes they do,  and the problem is they are transitioning from Capitalism to Communism.   They know what Capitalism is like,  and people have been telling them Communism is better.   As is common for some people,  they have to experience it to realize it isn't better.   


People who are raised in terrible Communist environments can clearly see that the Capitalist way is better.  Those going to the other direction can not because they have little exposure to full fledged communism.   They are moving towards Communism blindly.
