If the WH press corps has questions ... submit them in writing and receive the answers in kind.  Problem solved.

Nowhere is it cast in stone that any White House has to give the press corps a world stage for their tantrums.

Another time we agree on something @Right_in_Virginia many of us here at TBR have no use for Sean Spicer as long as you are here to explain the wonderful things our President is doing each day, it's all redundant and a waste of Taxpayer money.
I do wonder how you would have felt if obummer had spouted these same feelings though, wanna enlighten us #nevertrumpers here?

or he could stop saying stupid things

Then again.... if the leftists are the parsers, reporters and interpreters of those "stupid things"...

how well would that work?

Problem is that the morning printout would only be good for about an hour.  Next printout good for half hour.
By the end of the day we would have a complete fictional account of DT's day.

All the more reason to just cancel the dailies.  It's an idea I can really get behind.

This could also really backfire. Think about all the recent shifts in position where it was spun as a misspeak, joke, or misunderstanding based on a loaded question (or something like that). Now, everything wil be put in writing, vetted, and cleared, so there can be no backtracking. (Spicer's recent fubar regarding 'the wall is already being built' misstatement and using example photos of what it 'could' be like is a perfect example of this.)

True.   Ergo, the olde business meme "get it in writing"......where it will be rendered "innuendo-free".

All true, and to be balanced against the things we've already seen the left-wing press do by deliberately misquoting, taking out of context, and just making stuff up as they're going along.

Not every stupid thing Trump does is because of leftist interpretation.

You're all overthinking it.

Spicer - for some reason unfathomable to me - gets good ratings for his press conferences. Only one guy allowed to get good ratings in this circus, so the daily briefings need to stop.  :tongue2:

I have liked Spicer from the minute I first saw him.  Bonus points for infuriating the left to the point that they base a Saturday Night Live skit on him.

Actually, I would support getting rid of daily press briefings. Instead, the White House could release official statements, or notes, whenever necessary.

These press briefings are boorish. The press only asks questions that support the narrative they want. They interrupt and are rude. They don't accept answers they don't like. They turn the whole thing into a soundbite show by taking responses out of context.

This has been going on for decades. Time to end the show. Freedom of the press doesn't mean playing their game every day.

Most intelligent comment I have read so far.

I would suggest that instead of canceling them,  he simply allows press that is not liberally biased.   OAN,  for example.   By only allowing access to Conservative/Neutral agencies,  he both delegitimizes the Liberal press,  and he invigorates (monetarily)  the fair press.

Conservative press could do with more viewership which eventually translates into more dollars and more prestige.

You could just save everyone a lot of time and simply say "I hate Trump".    It's a lot less words to read.

Everything you have written in this thread  boils down to that same message.

Just WoW, @DiogenesLamp I had to FIX this for you, to show you how absurd it sounds (to me, anyway) what if obummer had done as you propose, would you be cheering?

I fail to see how it is even possible for Odumbo to do such a thing.   There is no conservative press controlling a trillion dollar broadcasting infrastructure and hammering him every day with lies.

Odumbo can't change to a friendly press,  because the only direction he can go is unfriendly.

The Usual Press is way over on the same side as him,  so in effect he already had what I was proposing for Trump.

What I am proposing is that Trump get the same thing Obama already had.

Speaking of Obama, corbe wrote:

It is apparent you cannot grasp how ridiculous and out of touch with reality your idea is.   There was no conservative press hammering Obama.   All he ever had was sycophants,  left-wing, liberal Democrats from New York.  (New York voted for Obama at 89%.)

You should be feeling foolish right about now.

I think the rats would love it if they cowed Trump into silence.  If Trump or his surrogates offer nothing to the viewers, then the drive by media will have to fill the void with something else.  Senator McCain has volunteered to offer his time to explain the GOP positions.

I also think one of the few remaining admirable qualities I see in Trump is his distrust and contempt of the news media.  It is a value I have instilled in my children.  I instinctively find myself cheering him and Spicer on when they give it to the media.

Lastly, I don't think the consumers of Trumpbart, Rush Limbaugh, and Foxnews need reinforcement.

but what do I know, I work for a living.

I regard John McCain as part of the problem,  not part of the solution.

I didn't mention any of them.  I mentioned OAN.  "One America Network."  Apart from them being an up and coming Conservative network,    Here is one very good reason for watching them.

This is what a dictator would do. Trump wants to control what he considers to be "truth". Like it or not, the POTUS works for the people of the US. He is not a king nor a dictator. He is answerable to the press as well as to all of us. Whether or not he likes the questions.

What Trump would like to do is avoid any questions and issue proclamations of his version of the truth that day. Like propaganda.

You can't blame the press for an administration that changes the narrative daily and issues obvious untruths. It's Trump's own actions and statements that cause all this confusion.  It is the job of the press to find out what is really going on. Unfortunately it has become hard to defend the press because of their own actions during previous administrations. However a free press is vital to our Republic and we should become very concerned if the POTUS wants to do away with any accountability to the American people. Like it or not the press is the only way for people like us to get information. Trump isn't going to take our phone calls.

@DiogenesLamp the little bit I've seen of OAN I liked, they are not on my DishTV lineup, but if they were I might reconsider cancelling the whole dam thing now that the NBA Playoffs are over for me.  I get all my news from you informed people, and for that I am grateful for the intellect you all share.

Press briefings are a waste of time; it only give liberals an avenue to spin things their way by the questions they ask.  If Trump or Spicer want to make a statement and address the public that's one thing, but leave the press out of the loop.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
