In 1969 then Gov. Ronald Reagan, R-CA sought to have Dr. Angela Davis removed from teaching at UC Davis.




The Black Panther grew during Reagan's tenure as Governor. At that time open carry was legal in California, and groups of armed black men in black leather jackets and toupees would appear in public, and once marched into the state Assembly chambers.
