30 minutes of news on WSB and not a word on the cause of the fire.

The Guardian has something: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/mar/31/atlanta-major-interstate-bridge-collapses-in-fire

Second to last line: "Deal said that PVC plastic materials in a vehicle may have caught fire."

There were a bunch of spools of some type of plastic tubing stored there.

Personally I'm betting on arson.

from  http://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/i-85-overpass-in-atlanta-collapses-as-crews-battle-massive-fire/507600158

Gov. Nathan Deal told reporters that some PVC plastic materials in a vehicle may have caught fire. "I do not know why they did or what the source of their transport was," Deal said. "But those are questions that will hopefully be answered at least by tomorrow morning."

------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a pic from WSB that shows the fire at its beginning.

Cannot see a vehicle on fire, but plenty of fuel (spooled cable) is visible. So what was the ignition source of the alleged vehicle? Where is the wreckage of the alleged vehicle?

It does not seem that the area was treated as a crime scene. Who made that call?

It baffles me to hear "We do not know the cause, but no crime was committed."

http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/31/us/atlanta-interstate-85-fire-collapse-cause/

Started in a construction-supplies storage area
The flames ignited in a fenced-in area where the state stores construction materials and supplies near the overpass, state Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry said.

Gov. Nathan Deal said Thursday that he had heard speculation it was caused by some "PVC products that caught fire."

McMurry initially said the materials stored under the highway were PVC pipes, but later said they were HDPE -- high-density polyethylene -- pipes. He said the conduits are used in the "traffic management, cabling, fiber-optic and wire network."
The material had been stored there "for some time, probably since 2006 or -7," McMurry said.

Note: No mention of any vehicle.

What caused the fire:

Authorities still do not know the cause of the fire. The area where the fire originated, he said, was storage for high-density plastic conduit used for cabling and fiber optics. He said the material isn't combustible.

( :wtf!:)

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said that city officials have spoken with the FBI and "there is no evidence that this is related to terrorism."

"High density polyethylene (HDPE) is highly flammable, and it is therefore of great scientific interest to find a way to reduce its flammability."(I figured it wasn't PVC)

I was half expecting a BLM snowflake or a member of the Allahu FUBAR cult. Mr. Eleby fits the BLM profile, now let's see if it was politically motivated or not.

Basil Eleby: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Three people are in custody in the fire that caused the dramatic collapse of an Interstate 85 (I-85) overpass in Atlanta, Georgia, according to WSB-TV.

WSB-TV reported that Basil Eleby was charged “with first degree criminal damage to property and two others are charged with criminal trespass.”

The other two suspects were named as “Sophia Bruner, charged with criminal trespass; and Barry Thomas, charged with criminal trespass,” by AJC.com. The bridge fire snarled traffic and spurred dramatic videos on March 30. The television station reported that Eleby and the other two suspects are in custody “in connection” with the fire.

Tensions were running high.

http://news.blog.ajc.com/2017/03/31/breaking-3-in-custody-in-connection-with-i-85-fire-bridge-collapse/

State investigators arrested three people Friday in connection with a fire that caused the collapse of a heavily traveled section of I-85.

Jay Florence, deputy commissioner of the state Department of Insurance, which includes the fire marshal’s office, identified the three as: Basil Eleby, charged with criminal damage to property; Sophia Bruner, charged with criminal trespass; and Barry Thomas, charged with criminal trespass.

“We believe they were together when the fire was set and Eleby is the one who set the fire,” Florence said.

Homeless man was 'smoking crack under overpass when he started huge blaze' that destroyed Atlanta interstate and will cause traffic chaos for MONTHS

leby admitted in the affidavit that he often visited the area as he was heading to and from work at a nearby tire shop and that he was there right before the blaze erupted. He told investigators he had talked to Thomas and Bruner about taking the drug together, the document continued.

Eleby said he decided to smoke alone and left the area before the fire was set, although Thomas told investigators that he saw Eleby start the fire by placing a chair on top of a shopping cart, then reaching under the cart and ignited it, according to the warrant.

Well. Maybe the chair was Naugahyde and the crackhead pulled out his trusty butane lighter to ignite it. That makes some sense as to how a hot enough fire to ignite the spools started.

Thanks @mountaineer

I'm betting he started the fire intentionally simply because he's a crack head and his attorney is telling him to call it an accident.

Intentional arson costing millions will bring serious jail time, an accidental fire not so much.
