Because a terrible as she is, Merkel is the only decent one over there. Schulz is absolute garbage and the only worth he had was being Nigel Farage's punching bag in the EU Parliament....

The single most important reason, is their multi-party system. Pretty much the same all across Europe.

Each country will usually have two or more "major" parties, from which the leadership will come. Those major parties will cover the center.

Secondary parties usually are at the fringes, and stand little to no chance to win. Their best chance is to be included in a coalition.

Typically those "fringe" players (parties, individuals) will include some policies that are portrayed as "extreme." Some of the fringe parties' candidates are kooks, too.

Finally with WWII in the fairly recent past, Europeans tend towards their "center." And Europeans also tend to like their mixed-economies.

Good observations and probably correct.  Still, I'd think Frau Merkel would be toxic by now.

Because when your other choices are the Greens...the Socialist/Communists and the Pirate Party...Merkel's CDU party seems pretty sane and conservative.
The libs/dems of today are the Quislings of former years. The cowards who would vote a fraud into office in exchange for handouts from the devil.

The Germans seem to be voting for national/cultural suicide.

So be it.
