President Donald Trump’s first two weeks in office have been tumultuous, to say the least. The biggest question ahead of the president’s inauguration last month was just how literal Trump was on his historical campaign trail. While many who voted against Trump were afraid that the radical ideas he often proposed were in fact an accurate representation of his intentions, many supporters seemed to be operating under the impression that Trump would relax a bit if he did indeed end up taking office. For example, billionaire Trump supporter Peter Thiel famously said that voters should “take Trump seriously but not literally.”

The country and the world have now quickly learned that much of Trump’s rhetoric was indeed to be taken literally, and his recent immigration ban is by far the new president’s most controversial move to date. Now, in the latest chapter of this saga, 97 companies including some of the biggest names in tech have banded together to file a legal brief in opposition of Trump’s executive order on immigration.

In an amicus brief filed late on Sunday in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, 97 companies clearly stated their opposition to Trump’s controversial executive order, which bars refugees and valid visa holders from seven Muslim countries from entering the United States. A US District judge temporarily lifted the immigration ban late on Friday night, but Trump and his staffers have already stated their intention to fight the judge’s decision.

Apple, Google, Facebook, Spotify, Airbnb, Citrix, eBay, Etsy, Intel, Microsoft, Netflix, Snap, Twitter and Uber are just some of the high-profile companies that participated in filing the brief, the goal of which is to make clear that the technology industry and American businesses in general oppose Trump’s ban.

“Immigrants make many of the Nation’s greatest discoveries, and create some of the country’s most innovative and iconic companies,” the brief stated. “America has long recognized the importance of protecting ourselves against those who would do us harm. But it has done so while maintaining our fundamental commitment to welcoming immigrants—through increased background checks and other controls on people seeking to enter our country.”

The brief can be seen in its entirety at this link, and the complete list of 97 companies responsible for the filing can be seen below.

These are huge corporations with billions collectively to fight.  I don't see this ending well.  If this should go to the Supreme Court and they rule against Trump; that does nothing but invite terrorists into this country and then nothing can be done.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

All the money in the world won't effect the make up of the court and the power of the Federal Govt'. I will also be interested to hear why exactly these companies feel effected by a short term ban on foreign nationals coming from terrorist hot spots. They will also need to explain how previous bans didn't effect them but this temporary one does.

How many of their highly skilled technical employees are from Libya, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia?

The State Department issues Visas.   Without a Visa they can't come here.   The Executive Branch can direct the State Department not to issue any Visas to countries on the ban list.

The courts can bang their gavels and whine.

Trump will ultimately win this no matter what the courts do,   and unless both the 9th circuit and the supreme court are completely insane,   he will win it in court merely on the legal merits.

The case against the ban doesn't have a rational legal leg to stand on.

Probably none of them are, but they WANT weak-only restrictions on immigration.

If I sat on a corporate board, I would avoid doing measures like this.

But these days boards have figurehead members, for feminism, and for diversity, and their job is to do stupid stuff like this.
