London, Jan 30 (PTI) An online petition seeking cancellation of US President Donald Trump’s State Visit to the UK has quickly crossed the one-million signature-mark to be considered for a debate in British Parliament, amid international uproar over his controversial immigration ban on people from seven Muslim nations.

The petition titled ‘Prevent Donald Trump from making State Visit to the United Kingdom’ on the UK Parliament website had been created on Saturday afternoon and rapidly collected the 100,000 signatures needed for it to be considered for a debate in the House of Commons.

The issue will be discussed in the House Commons tomorrow for a date to be set for the debate.

“Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen,” the petition reads.

“Donald Trump’s well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales. Therefore, during the term of his presidency Donald Trump should not be invited to the United Kingdom for an official State Visit,” it adds.

British Prime Minister Theresa May had communicated the invitation to Trump on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II during her US visit last week.

Downing Street has indicated that it has no plans of withdrawing the invitation for the state visit, which involves lavish pomp and ceremony, often with a stay at Buckingham Palace hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.

“We extended the invite and it was accepted,” a Downing Street statement said.

UK Opposition parties have also called for a postponement of the visit, scheduled for June this year.

“Theresa May would be failing the British people if she does not postpone the state visit and condemn Trump’s actions in the clearest terms. That s what Britain expects and deserves,” Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn said.
Palace has so far declined to comment on the controversy gathering momentum in the wake of the US President’s executive order that temporarily suspends all immigration for citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days.

UK foreign secretary Boris Johnson has secured assurances from the White House that the vast majority of British citizens with dual nationality of countries on the list will be exempt from the new US travel ban.

Trump has provoked a fierce backlash after his ban on people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from travelling to America.

My son has lived in London 30 years.  From the time Trump won the election, he says the English were stunned such a man could win.  Based on what son says about the people, I am not surprised a million has signed the petition to keep Trump out as that is the way they felt about Trump before he wrote the executive order keeping people out.

@Frank Cannon

The English people my son knows are not Muslim, so it is the English who oppose Trump as well as likely the Muslims.

The online petition makes no statement regarding the Executive Order on immigration restrictions.
The reasons stated in the petition are Trump's vulgarity and misogyny.

India.com is making the connection with the EO, not the British people
And keep in mind that it is an online petition that doesn't have to adhere to any kind of standards of proof of actual British citizenship.

It seems to be a bit like the petitions to the White House on the web; with so many signatures, it has to be discussed.

UK is likely not going to turn its back on the most powerful country in the world.

@kidd

You said, "The reasons stated in the petition are Trump's vulgarity and misogyny."

See my post above.  You are correct, it was Trump as a person the English rejected.  My son was here the first part of December, and when he talked about the English, it was Trump's character they rejected.  My son also couldn't believe such a person could be elected here.

Following recent practice, she should knight Trump for that.

I wouldn't blame india.com who are probably sourcing this from someone like Reuters, AP or AFP, everyone is reporting this like this.

The petition has been out there but has not gained steam until Trump's immigration actions.

Travel ban: UK petition to stop Trump state visit hits 1 million

London (CNN)A petition to stop US President Donald Trump's making an official state visit to Britain had gained more than a million signatures by Monday, in a backlash to Trump's controversial ban on citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

The petition to ban Trump from making the visit was created on the country's Government and Parliament website at the end of November, long before Trump's announcement, and had gained just 372 signatures in two months.

News spread over the weekend of Trump's travel ban, and by 10 am on Monday, the number of signatures on the petition had soared, and it's still rising

So far, the US likely hasn't experienced like what they say has happened in the UK, actually seeing Minarets in the neighborhood, no thank you. These are not as innocent as a Buddhist temple.

Farage will tells us, some towns apparently are close to being taken over, Luton? Blackburn?

In that case...
I really, really doubt that a million individual brits care enough about American immigration policy enough to search out a mostly unrelated online petition to sign.

This is not a measure of how angry the British are over American immigration policy. It is a measure of how well those with an agenda can organize a Freep or use bots to manipulate an unaccountable online opinion poll.

This IS fake news.
