Royal Navy ships poised to lead show of force with US and French ships, amid a string of entanglements with Iranian vessels in strategic waterway

A Royal Navy-led strike group of American, British and French warships is preparing for "war games" in the Gulf, including a simulated confrontation with Iran, amid ongoing disputes with Tehran's naval forces and bellicose rhetoric against the country by the new Trump administration.

Exercise Unified Trident, due to begin next week, has been planned for some time but is the first major deployment of British and American warships in the area since Donald Trump entered the White House.

US Navy warships from the strike group have been involved in a string of confrontations with Iranian forces in recent months, including an incident earlier this month when destroyer USS Mahan fired warning shots at four fast-attack Iranian patrol boats.

On a serious note it really is a shame to see that your military...especially the navy...has gotten to the state it's in now.  Both nations need to build back up.

There's that naval base in Gibraltar, USN and Royal Navy would dock there and everyone would go on leave to that little town. One time, fisticuffs broke out. I vaguely know a man who served in the Royal Navy and in the Royal Army, I"m not sure of the correct terms. But he served in Norn Ireland as well during the troubles and told me a few things that went on though none of it was really direct confrontation with the IRA; general things.

They are every bot the warriors that the U.S. soldiers are...they are just hamstrung by many of the same politics and types of politicians that we are.

While I do have a very obvious bias .....  :tongue2:

We're better trained - our regular Army units have the same level and standards of training as US Marines (who are the gold star of US regular forces). Have to be, since we are no where near as well equipped.
