Either way, it doesn't touch/affect the vast majority of Americans.

Born 100% by a select group that is sending American dollars across a border.

Yup!

This business of a border tax bothers me because the people who would end up paying the bill will be American consumers in higher prices bumped up by the hidden tax.  Why should you and I pay?  And if we do, we and only we, should have a say in how that wall gets implemented.

Couple that with the Fairtax, which would assure that they paid a full $.23 out of each dollar spent while here in tax (they don't get any reimbursements as legal residents do), and the problem begins to resolve itself and we didn't have to deport anyone!

Excellent.

I got this 'feeling' again.

The tip-off for me was how the union leadership praised him in front of the mics...stealing, hopefully, permanently, the union vote from the Socialist Democrat Party.   Turning them into Republicans.  Their families.   ....and their little dog too!

He's "...going to have those [Hispanics] voting Republican for 200 years!"

We may not like the road he takes to get there.   I pray to God it's not a blanket amnesty.   I highly doubt it, given that the WALL was his signature promise on the day he declared.

But, HE'S going to get them from the shadows, proper bio-metric IDs, paperwork....together with a 'booming' infrastructure program....it's going to be Christmas for the manual laborer like it was in Bush Years.

Those 'laborers' back then....some of them own their own businesses today, with their own crews.

And President Trump, with his whatever-the-hell it is...can pull it off.

Here's my suggestion -- JUST BUILD THE DAMN WALL USING OUR OWN MONEY. Forget about forcing Mexico to pay for it.

They keep talking Infrastructure... well there's one right there ( and it's part of NATIONAL DEFENSE and HOMELAND SECURITY TOO ).

During the next election cycle which begins in about 3-years, will Trump's excuse for not building "the wall", or at least having a good start on it be "well Mexico refused to pay"?   If the wall is that important just get started on it already. Form the committee, lay out the plan, assign contractors, and build the damn thing.

What's strange is I'd love to see the income tax replaced with this or a VAT. Just not tariffs.

Mexico is close to a failed nation; and has taken advantage of the US for a long time, running drugs in; time they got their own house in order.

We are the cause of all that drug running - we're the customers that buy from them and refuse to stop. Stick the final nail in Mexico's economy and see what happens then if you think it is bad now...

Speak for yourself there.  It might surprise you that people who live in TX, NM and AZ have a much different attitude about having no beef with Mexico.

Folks in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona shouldn't have a beef with Mexico.   Their beef should be with U.S. employers who create the demand for labor that Mexican immigrants satisfy.   And with U.S. citizens who create the demand for illegal drugs that Mexican cartels satisfy.

Mexico has really deteriorated in the 35 years I've lived near it.  I used to go to the border town whenever somebody from back home (MI) would come out for shopping adventures, and the cruise lines to the Mexican Riviera were thick with ships going to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo.  No more.  Crime from the drug cartels and the corrupt Federales is rampant, and piracy has shut down many of the cruise destinations.

Sad.

Exactly!  Guess who gets to pay the tax in the end?  Hint, it's not people in Mexico.

No, I meant a general tariff, not a remittance tax, but I didn't make that at all clear.

I live in Missouri and one night I was out dancing with friends and I had a very scary group of about 5 Mexican nationals try to lure me out to their car, first with an offer of drugs and then literally try to drag me bodily from the club.   I'm just glad that I was able to get to my friend Dustin, he was working as a bouncer that night and he kept me close to him until closing when he walked me to my car, and yeah, creepy Mexicans were still skulking about in the parking area.
So yeah, I have a "beef with Mexico.

News to me. Which language did they impose? Was it French? I bet it was the damned French.

Spanish... of course.

Spain is part of the EU.

And Mexico speaks it.

@chae Right after I got married, my wife's BIL was murdered by four illegal aliens about 45 miles south of me.  They beat him to death with a baseball bat because he had blue eyes.  The cops knew exactly who did it right away because they'd been caught doing it four times before, but since the victims survived they were turned loose!  Two went to prison for it, two melted back across the border and were never found.  I'm sure somebody we both know would be more than happy to mansplain to me (a man) that I should be angry at the cops, not the poor little misunderstood yoots.

So you see, I have less than zero patience for whiny little lefty boys from Philadelphia in man buns lecturing me about what I should think and feel about Mexico, whether I should be allowed to carry a weapon, or what women should feel about abortion.  {Spit!}   I've driven around Temple University, and those folks should tend to their own knitting before lecturing me.  What a dump they've made of that neighborhood.

Stunning proof that this remains a #nevertrump site.

Item after item as we are nearly finished with the fourth day, get criticized. FOUTH DAY.

So called Conservatives and Republicans have asked for change for years, yet when it comes in boatloads, the uproar against change is amazing.

More and more proof that "establishment Republicans" and their entrenched status quo, are a big part of the problem.

@truth_seeker

This is ridiculous.  If you expect Trump not to be questioned, and instead served with unqualified praise, you're going to be disappointed.

That is exactly what they not only expect...but demand as well.

Meanwhile you have others claiming this site has gone completely Orange because people like t_s and DCP are allowed to post here.

How horrible!  I've heard accounts of what people who live near the border have to endure.  What a sickening waste of life.

People who don't have a clue about your own personal situation are the ones who like to do the lecturing.
