Former NFL wide receiver James Hardy dies at 31

Once a highly touted collegiate prospect and converted basketball player, Hardy was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2008. He only lasted two seasons with the team, neither of which saw him with much playing time, in part because of injuries. An attempt to join the Baltimore Ravens in 2011 ended in failure.

Whereas his physical injuries hobbled his career in football, a rapidly declining mental state ruined his post-football career. He was declared insane in 2014 after a disturbing the peace incident, and was found dead June 7 in a river outside Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Hardy arrested for attacking 3 police officers in Lost Angeles. But back on the street.

My guess is powerful, mind altering drugs. There is a reason they are called "mind altering."

They are.

@truth_seeker   He didn't look to be a big, muscular guy,so getting his melon thumped by linemen and defensive backs is just as likely as drugs to have created his mental state.

Or he could have just been born with a chemical inbalance.

The one thing we know for sure is he shouldn't have ended up this way.

Hawaiian pizza inventor Sam Panopoulos dies aged 83

Sam Panopoulos, who has died aged 83, leaves a legacy that has delighted, confused and appalled diners worldwide. Often at the same time.

Panopoulos is the Canadian man who invented Hawaiian pizza, a dish so divisive it led to a presidential outburst this year.

He passed away in hospital suddenly on Thursday.

Awww.  I enjoyed Adam West.  Had a bit of a crush on him when I was a teenager and Batman was on TV.  Thought he was good looking.  Enjoyed his character on Family Guy too  (yes I know Christians should not watch it, but I'm an old lady and don't have too many vices left).

Rest in peace, Mr. West.

To me, he will always be Batman. Not the other actors who did the role after him.

He was also Catman on Fairly Oddparents. I think he did a lot of cartoon voices in the last decade or so.

RIP Batman. ANd Mayor West From Family Guy.
Adam West, Straight-Faced Star of TV's 'Batman,' Dies at 88

Quote
Adam West, the ardent actor who managed to keep his tongue in cheek while wearing the iconic cowl of the Caped Crusader on the classic 1960s series Batman, has died. He was 88.

West, who was at the pinnacle of pop culture after Batman debuted in January 1966, only to see his career fall victim to typecasting after the ABC show flamed out, died Friday night in Los Angeles after a short battle with leukemia, a family spokesperson said...

After struggling for years without a steady job, the good-natured actor reached a new level of fame when he accepted an offer to voice the mayor of Quahog — named Adam West; how’s that for a coincidence! — on Seth MacFarlane’s long-running Fox animated hit Family Guy...

BBC news just reported that Helmut  Kohl died at the age of 87. Breaking
German chancellor Helmut Kohl dies at 87

Kohl emerged as one of West Germany's most influential and longest-serving politicians, serving as chancellor of the country from 1982 to 1998. He is credited as the mastermind of the country's reunification with formerly Soviet-dominated East Germany as well as the formation of the European Union.

Kohl's political philosophy was known as "Christian democracy," which entailed a strong foreign focus with fiscal liberalism. He was a strong ally (albeit one made mostly for strategy) with the United States and remained a harsh critic of current chancellor Angela Merkel on almost all of her policies.

Stephen Furst -- actor and filmmaker known for playing Flounder in 'Animal House' -- has died due to complications from diabetes ... TMZ has learned.
Stephen's son Nathan tells us ... his father died at his home in Ventura Country, CA early Friday morning surrounded by loving friends and family. He and his brother Griff said about their dad ... "He was a beloved husband, father and kind friend whose memory will always be a blessing."

Furst battled with diabetes for years, and later became a spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association.

Along with playing Kent 'Flounder' Dorfman in the 1978 comedy classic, he also had starring roles on "Babylon 5" and "St. Elsewhere." He directed a few episodes of 'Babylon 5' as well.

He was 63.
RIP

Actor Stephen Furst, of Animal House fame, dies at 62

Furst, who battled weight issues and hereditary type-2 diabetes throughout most of his life, was a prominent character actor and voice artist through his life. He first rose to fame as Kent "Flounder" Dorfman, one of the characters in National Lampoon's Animal House. He also had notable roles as Vir Cotto in the TV series Babylon 5 (a role that allegedly inspired North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un's haircut) and Dr. Elliot Axelrod on St. Elsewhere.

Furst later made a conscious effort to improve his health after being diagnosed with diabetes shortly after both his parents died at age 47. Although he lost his foot to the disease and eventually died from complications stemming from it, his efforts allowed him to live 15 years longer than his parents did.

Not going to speak ill of the dead, so I have nothing to add here.

@Cyber Liberty

Why? If she was evil and did evil while alive, her death is a cause for celebration.

NONE of the evil she did or promoted while alive is now negated just because she is dead, and as a lawyer chances are that evil will still be active and inflicting injury on living people years or even decades from now.

Televangelist Leroy Jenkins dead at 83

There was a time when everyone knew his name. The Rev. Leroy Jenkins was famous in Delaware, where he started the Healing Water Cathedral in the 1970s.

A televangelist and faith healer, Jenkins, 83, died from complications of pneumonia Wednesday morning in Florida, said his son, Danny Jenkins.

He always had a big presence, and loved being around people, Danny Jenkins said.

“He looked like Elvis, dressed like Liberace, ran for governor and said he had God-given powers,” said Lee Yoakum, spokesman for the city of Delaware, in an email. “Someone like that is going to leave a pretty colorful history — in any town — not just Delaware.”

Never heard of him, and I thought I was familiar with most of 'em.

... Jenkins had legal troubles and he served time in prison on charges of conspiracy to commit arson and assault. He also filed for bankruptcy, was indicted for tax evasion and is accused of selling contaminated “miracle water.”  ...

The similarities are so close I can see how people could get them confused.

Leeroy Jenkins is the name of a World of Warcraft character that is known for screaming out his name before ignorantly charging headlong into battle, killing everyone in his party.

Venus Ramey, war bond-selling, gun-toting Miss America of 1944, dies at 92

By Jon Herskovitz

Venus Ramey, who used her victory as Miss America in 1944 to sell war bonds and make appearances on the vaudeville stage, has died at the age of 92, a funeral home in her native Kentucky said on Sunday.

Ramey, at age 82 in 2007, thwarted an attempt to steal equipment at her Kentucky farm by balancing with a walking stick and shooting out the tires of the suspects' vehicle, local news reports at the time said.

After the incident, she appeared on national TV programs including "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," where she quipped that she liked to start things with a bang.

Ramey left Kentucky for the U.S. capital in the 1940s to help with the war effort during World War Two and represented the District of Columbia when she was crowned Miss America. During her tenure, she worked with members of Congress to help enact women's rights legislation, the Miss America organization said.

Here's a picture of her with some young girls who to me, appear to be Asian. I wonder what the story is behind this? I see, the book she has, has Chinese characters and some of the background looks Chinese. Not conclusive but probably.

 Lovely picture.

RIP Anthony Young . . .

Anthony Young dies at 51; lost record 27 straight games

Quote
Former pitcher Anthony Young, who still holds the major league record with 27 consecutive losses, died in Houston on Tuesday, the New York Mets announced.

He was 51 years old. His death comes on the anniversary of his 24th consecutive loss, which broke the record, on June 27, 1993 against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Former Mets pitcher Turk Wendell said in a statement that Young said earlier this year at the Mets' fantasy camp that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

"Anthony was a true gentleman," Wendell said. "At this year's fantasy camp, he told us he had a brain tumor. That was Anthony. He never ran away from anything."
