The majority of American voters are opposed to President-elect Donald Trump building a border wall between the United States and Mexico and are in favor of abortion, stances that contradict Trump's views, according to a new survey.
The Quinnipiac University Poll also found that 60 percent of people want a pathway to citizenship put in place for illegal immigrants.
Key findings from the poll:
67 percent are in favor of Roe v. Wade, which made abortion legal in the U.S.
55 percent oppose a border wall, compared to 42 percent who are for it.
Of voters who want a potential Supreme Court nominee's opinions taken into consideration, 51 percent said Trump should not nominate a justice who would vote to restrict abortion rights.
"Two of President-elect Donald Trump's signature campaign mantras get a hearty thumbs down. Voters to Trump: No way on reversing Roe v. Wade and not a chance on building that wall," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
Voters do agree with Trump on other issues, however:
83 percent are in favor of increasing federal spending to improve the nation's infrastructure.
50 percent are in favor of "suspending immigration from terror prone regions, even if it means turning away refugees from those regions," compared to 44 percent who said the opposite.
64 percent want the U.S. to renegotiate major trade deals with other countries.
