Buchanan: Trump Will Face 'Besieged Presidency'
Monday, November 21, 2016 08:13 PM
Citing continued protests in the streets, Democratic mayors vowing not to enforce immigration laws, and the cast of "Hamilton" lecturing Vice President-elect Mike Pence from the stage, conservative pundit Pat Buchanan warned Donald Trump will face a "besieged presidency."
"The battle of 2016 is over," Buchanan wrote in his latest column, appearing on WND.com. "The long war of the Trump presidency has only just begun."
As a result, Trump "would do well to enlist, politically speaking, a war cabinet and White House staff that relishes a fight and does not run," he said.
Two anti-Trump demonstrations already are being set up in Washington, Buchanan noted – one on Inauguration day by a group called ANSWER, Act Now to Stop War and End Racism. Another, set for the next day, is a pro-Hillary Clinton "Million Woman March."
Buchanan compared the mayors of New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and others who say they will defy Trump's plan to enforce immigration laws and enact a registry for people coming from countries with high populations of terrorists to the segregationist senators from the South in 1956 who issued a "Southern Manifesto" rejecting the Brown v. Board of Education decision ordering public school integration.
"To see [Chicago Mayor] Rahm [Emanuel] and [New York Mayor Bill] de Blasio in effect invoking John C. Calhoun's doctrine of interposition and nullification is a beautiful thing to behold," Buchanan wrote.
