Police Have Suspect in Death of Saudi Student, No Evidence of Hate Crime

 by Phil Helsel

Police in Wisconsin said Friday they have a suspect in the fatal beating of a Saudi college student more than two weeks ago, and authorities concluded the fatal attack was not a hate crime.

The Menomonie Police Department did not release the name of the suspect pending a charging decision.

Hussain Saeed Alnahdi, a student at University of Wisconsin-Stout, died after a weekend assault.

Hussain Saeed Alnahdi, 24, a student attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout, died after being beaten near a pizzeria in downtown Menomonie early Oct. 30, police said, and he died Monday. Preliminary findings from the medical examiner's office found Alnahdi likely died of a traumatic brain injury.

Following the attack, Menomonie Police Chief Eric Atkinson said he would "not dismiss" the possibility that the assault was a hate crime at a press conference.

On Friday the police department said in a statement: "Through the course of the investigation the MPD hasn't found any evidence that would suggest the death of Hussain Alnahdi was a hate crime."

First, what a tragedy, my condolences.

The murder suspect's name has not been released yet.  The suspect from the story is not even from that county in Wisconsin; it makes one wonder what happened. I had heard of this story.

What is interesting, is that there seems to be a few of these cases in the US where apparently, Saudi citizens have been attacked.

Saudi, Kuwaiti students face racial attacks in US state
ARAB NEWS | Published — Thursday 14 April 2016

JEDDAH: Saudi and Kuwaiti students on scholarships in Pocatello, Idaho, have been subjected to beatings and stabbings in the recent past. They have complained of facing threats, having their belongings stolen and racial discrimination by the local population.

Saudi cultural attaché in Washington Mohammad Al-Issa told a Saudi newspaper that the cultural mission has been working since Tuesday morning to communicate with all the affected students in the city and facilitate their transfer to other universities if the situation warranted.

I think since this story was published, these students have withdrawn from going to school at some of these Idaho colleges.

Just something to keep an eye on, this in Wisconsin probably was not a hate-motivated attack.
