 By S.A. Miller - The Washington Times - Tuesday, November 15, 2016

An economic adviser of President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that the transition team was working on plans for a tax code overhaul that would be “the biggest tax changes since Reagan.”

Steven Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs banker who is considered a leading candidate for Treasury secretary in the Trump administration, told reporters at Trump Tower in New York that the team was hard at work on an economic plan.

“We’re working on the economic plan with the transition, making sure we get the biggest tax bill passed, the biggest tax changes since Reagan, so a lot of exciting things in the first 100 days of the Trump presidency,” Mr. Mnuchin said, according to a pool report.

President Ronald Reagan executed one of the largest reductions of tax rates in U.S. history that is credited, in part, with a rapid economic expansion in the 1980s.

If they aren't scraping the entire code and replacing it with either the Fair Tax or a Flat Tax, it's not enough.

1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.
4. When all else fails, remember rule #1 and #2. Emoticons are like the poor man's tweet!

And if they don't cut the budget, and I mean really cut it, not just slow down the yearly increase, it won't be enough.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
I'm willing to wait to see what they put out, but they got a tall order to fill.

And this is why the Ultra Conservatives fail at everything politically. They would rather rage because the politically possible is not politically  perfect then actually do anything.

I'll take tax cuts that aren't a scrapping of the entire tax code. But I won't take them gladly if what we get is a redux of Bush II with tax cuts and budget increases. It's insanity.

You probably aren't aware, but our public debt is close to 20 trillion and rising. Deficits are also on the rise again. Tax cuts are great. But without cuts and reductions in the deficit and debt we will not have sustained, real economic growth
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

@Bunny Watson
If Trump proposes budget cuts, real budget cuts, I will support them and him even from the anticipated accusations from the left. I know it would be political tough to do as it's easier to promise everybody new programs and tax cuts but it would not only be the right thing to do, but necessary.

Just following through on finding and eliminating all the waste, fraud, and abuse will be more than sufficient!

Not in getting on a sustainable fiscal path. It'll take cuts. In fact, at some point, tax increases for everyone and deep, across the board cuts in spending will probably face us

I was hoping this election would be the start of real reductions in government but it appears to be a "they're our deficits now" feeling to this

I'm not so sure about that but I'm all for actual cuts in any case!  Not just the reductions in the rate of growth we have previously gotten that were called cuts.

I am also partial to the Fair Tax, as I believe it is probably one of the only honest tax plans I've seen.

But, at this point, I'll take a Flat Tax over more pages of tax code.

No income tax! Flat, round, or square!
