Right. But here we are in the general election - do we vote for the candidate of dubious credibility who says he might do something about the problem; or the candidate who flat says she'll naturalize them all?

Do we vote for the candidate of dubious credibility who says he'll reduce our taxes; or the candidate who flat says she'll raise them?

Do we vote for the candidate of dubious credibility who says he'll nominate SCOTUS justices who hew to the Constitution; or the candidate who flat says she'll select leftist political ideologies?

I seriously do.   Oh,  we will have "elections". We will go through the symbolism and ritual of pretending to ask the voters what they want,    but after millions of additional socialists are let into the country and given the right to vote,   we will only ever after have socialists elected.

You don't seriously believe you will ever win another election if Hillary lets in millions of illegals and grants them amnesty?   Do you?

That kinda reminds me of the 2016 Republican Primary.  You broke it, You bought it.  @DiogenesLamp

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Or do we vote for someone with zero chance of even registering a significant amount of the vote?

When you tell a child 'don't touch the cookie" and the kid sticks his hand in the jar anyway, do you let him have the cookie?

No. You take it away to not reward his behavior. Likewise, the GOP was told NO by conservatives and they nominated a liberal anyway. Conservatives are not going to reward their behavior by giving them what they want.

The child learns from a slap on the hand, the Trumpist GOP will learn eventually that when conservatives tell you no, that we will not be there to give you what you want. If that pain is great, so be it.

I voted for Cruz.   How did that break the primary?

If that's so, why hasn't Obama done it yet?

And if you believe this, why wasn't it over after 2008? Or 2012? Why is 2016 not kabuki, but 2020 and anything beyond is sure to be?

Are you now joining with the liberals who are mocking people who have values and standards?

Are you joining liberal Dio by putting the word PRINCIPLED in quotes and mocking those of us who won't sacrifice them??

That's a heckuva dilemma there, @skeeter .  Seriously, that is a post that cuts to the nub of the issue here.

As for me, I believe hope springs eternal. People change. Times change. When the Federalists collapsed, the Whigs rose to take their place. When the Whigs lost their principles, along came the Republicans.

The GOP is the second-oldest political party in the world. The Democrats are the only one older. Perennial two-party systems that last a century and a half are the exception, not the norm.

Conservatism faces a challenge, to be sure, and you may be right—the Republican Party faces a dire future. But as I said, we are all rational human beings. Another poster once noted: lily-white midwestern states like Minnesota and Wisconsin vote Democrat in federal elections consistently, while majority-minority Texas is still solidly conservative. Demography is NOT destiny.

I just don't remember you protesting at all when your orange wonder and his whiz kid manafort were running roughshod over the Delegates at the GOP Convention.

Must be nice to be able to turn off those evil conservative voices in your head by supporting that dumpster fire you now belly up to.

The Issue has always been defeating Hillary, yall just picked a different (losing) horse.  Your Bad, not mine.

I'm looking at BOTH of the candidates filthy "shortcomings" and voting for neither.

I have said repeatedly that I UNDERSTAND those of you who feel you have to vote for vile Trump because you believe Hillary is viler.  I just won't do that myself because I cannot put my stamp of approval on someone who doesn't believe in ONE THING that I believe in.

There is no dilemma unless one believes you go right by going left. That you get good by committing evil. That up is down.

How about neither? That option still exists, despite the supporters of the two refusing to acknowledge it.

What he says carries little weight. He's lied over and over being on every side of virtually every issue over the course of a few years.

You say reduce taxes, but he's proposed raising taxes on the "wealthy" many times. Including wanting a "one time wealth tax" on people... He was against Reagan's tax cuts and went up to capital hill to demand the return to 50%+ tax rates on the "wealthy".

And he says he's going to raise tariffs which is raising taxes on everyone who buys imports - which is many. Many manufacturing jobs in this country depend on imported components/raw materials. Raising tariffs will damage all of those. Go look how the great depression got rolling.

When Trump is done likely no Republican will be elected to the presidency for decades. He's poison. You think GWB damaged the brand, he's a piker compared to what Trump will do. So either we survive the witch or we don't survive at all long term.

Dio is mocking those of us who won't sacrifice life-long, deeply held values, such as integrity and honor.

I don't see how I mischaracterized him in any way.

Besides which, if he didn't "eat" conservatives with values, I wouldn't say a word against him.

He's on this forum to make fun of me and everything I value.

That's a problem.

As I do you. Believe it our not, what torqued me off was Norms characterization of people like me as having abandoned my principles, making me a 'bad' conservative.

Its characteristic of this entire election season. We just aren't on the same page.
