Poll: Clinton has 9-point lead over Trump

By Rebecca Savransky

Hillary Clinton has a 9-point lead over Donald Trump nationally, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Clinton (D) is favored by 46 percent of likely voters, and Trump (R) is backed by 37 percent.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson has the support of 8 percent of likely voters, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein is backed by 2 percent.

In a head-to-head matchup, Clinton's lead over Trump widens to 10 points, 50 percent to 40 percent.

The poll was conducted Oct. 8–10 and includes data from interviews conducted after the presidential debate on Sunday.

Among only those voters contacted after Sunday night's debate, the Democratic nominee's lead over Trump dropped to 7 points in both four-way and head-to-head matchups.

The poll also found more support for Trump among Republicans following the debate.

Nearly three-quarters of Republicans polled after the debate said the GOP House and Senate candidates should back Trump. Ahead of the debate, only 67 percent of voters said the same.

That number comes as GOP lawmakers and elected officials are abandoning the party nominee in droves, after audio emerged Friday of Trump making sexually obscene remarks about groping women. In the tape, Trump described how he could grope and kiss women without their consent because of his celebrity status.

Following the debate, fewer voters than before said the release of that 2005 tape should disqualify him from the race.

Thirty-six percent of likely voters asked after the debate said the tape is disqualifying and Trump should withdraw from the race; 47 percent disagreed.

Before the debate, 38 percent of likely voters said the tape is disqualifying and 42 percent disagreed.

The poll was conducted Oct. 8-10 among 806 likely voters. The margin of error is 3.5 percent.

A PRRI/The Atlantic national poll released Tuesday — which was conducted Oct. 5-7, before the second debate —showed Clinton with an 11-point lead, while Tuesday’s RealClearPolitics average of polls put Clinton up 6.5 points.

Can we save the Senate?

Why? They voted in sum for everything Obama demanded of consequence. Why save that? Does it matter if a Dem sells out America or a Pub? They are both left wing parties.

Idiot response. Senate does not vote for everything Obama demanded. The Senate will be the only stopping a USSC nominee.

For an idiot response it accurately reflects how Obama was able to pass all his major issues. Unless you failed Civics and think he got everything by his magic pen...the senate had to vote on them remember?

Did Obama get his universal background checks?  How about any gun control measures at all?

What about Merrick Garland?  Is Merrick Garland on the Supreme Court?

What about these 500 bills?  http://www.politico.com/story/2014/05/republicans-legislation-obama-dccc-event-106481

The Republican Congress has blocked plenty of Obama legislation.

No, it does not.

1) Obama did not get his Clean Air Regs.  Congress would not pass them, he tried to force it through via executive Action, and he was stymied in the Courts.

2) Obama could not get the immigration bill that he wanted.  He was forced to resort to Executive Actions to which the courts again put a halt.

3) Obama could not get the amendments to the ACA that he wanted, including an increase of the subsidies.  As a result, the exchanges are imploding.

4) Obama could not get his Supreme Court nominee approved.  As a result, several important cases (including 1 and 2 above) that would have gone in his favor, did not.

5) Obama could not get his so-called "Employee Free Choice Act" through Congress.  As a result, the NLRB tried to get it through administratively, and was shot down by the Courts.

That's global warming, immigration, the ACA, Supreme Court Justice, and labor law, all major issues on which he was stymied.

And don't forget Sequestration. If the GOP did not take the HOR, we would have seen a continuation of trillion dollar deficits under Pelosi

He got the debt to record levels. Ge got Iran funded. He got many of his military actions funded and the enemy armed. He got gay marriage with absolutely no interference or legislation to override the court even attempted. He got several shutdowns averted and Obamacare continually expanded. He got his immigration BS through without the GOP stopping him, had courts rule against and was not impeached.

Right.  Because....in reality....the Boehner Congress gave Obama even MORE than he wanted.  He didn't even have to ask.

You've completely moved the goalposts.  You've morphed from "he got all his major issues through" to "they didn't stop all his major issues".  The latter is something on which you'd have gotten no disagreement, the former defies reality.

Because we are overspending. We need way more cuts than Sequestration but it was a good start.

Sadly deficits are on the rise again so it was "good" while it lasted

And where do you suppose barry got the money to spend? Perhaps the House and Senate? They DID have to authorize it...

You have just revealed you don't know how Congress works.

Gay marriage?   How does one "stop" gay marriage when the Democrats in the Senate could filibuster it?  And it takes a Constitutional Amendment to override a Supreme Court decision.  Try getting 2/3 of the House to agree to that.

Obamacare was expanded by executive action.  Again, the GOP Congress did its best to get OCare repealed, but, of course, there's that filibuster again.

As for the rest, I never figured you for a conspirazoid.  Just what exactly would Obama have been impeached for?
