For Joe Blow like you and me, the maximum Capital loss direct net reportable on Schedule D is $3,000.

Capital losses are carried forward year after year until they are fully credited.

Nothing Trump did on his business return was different or illegal.  :shrug:

He certainly didn't write the tax code and has a fiduciary obligation to his company to minimize tax payment, as did the firm he hired to prepare his taxes.

...yes, but that POV avoids the hair-on-fire criticism of Donald Trump so necessary here at TBR. It doesn't quite reach the down-to-the-core hatred of Donald Trump commentary considered to be amongst the pinnacle of astute political analysis here at "NeverTrump Central."

Tell me, what's your problem anyway?

All Net Operating Losses in 1995: $49.331 billion.
NOL taken by @realDonaldTrump in 1995: $916 million.
Trump was 1.9% of the US total.

Trump lost a billion dollars on a casino where the house always wins.  How is that possible?

Yup that is exactly what I did for years.  Trump just did it on a larger scale as a business is handled differently.  All perfectly legal.  I can't stand the reprobate....but this is certainly not the mountain to die on.
.

And everything that I've gathered from the story he was perfectly within the law to do what he did.

 The issue I have is  his  hypocrisy  and that's where some damage could be done. A 3 AM Twitter meltdown over a former Miss Universe is far more damaging than this, though
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

So let me get this straight, a guy who benefited by a billion bucks under the current tax code is going to fix it... :pondering:

Note that this loss was years after he'd already been unable to make payments on a casino (Trump Castle) and got bailed out by his daddy with an illegal loan (fined $30,000 for it).

Brilliant businessman, my foot!

More to the point.....a guy that brags about being such a winner....has a solid record of being a major loser in business...and we're supposed to believe that "this" time he wouldn't mismanage and lose $$$ for America?   Riiiight!

I didn't realize that the loan from Fred Sr. was illegal.  So much for the Trump camp excuse of "what he does is perfectly legal" BS.

OK, dumb question - how/why was the loan illegal?

Just found this....

In December 1990, a lawyer for Fred Trump walked into Trump Castle in Atlantic City and, according to reports at the time, deposited a check with the casino for $3.36 million in exchange for chips. Instead of using the chips to play in the casino, the lawyer left

@sinkspur

He did it partially by charging all the living and playing expenses of himself and his whole damn family to the corporation,including inflated salaries.

The corporation went bankrupt and contractors,workers,and investors lost all their money,but he made millions from it.

It's no secret that stripping out a corporation and maximizing personal profits while running it into bankruptcy is a large part of  his business model. He has done that at least 4 times in the US and once in Mexico.

I have been told he even writes about it in his book about the "art of making the deal".

He didn't invent this philosophy by any stretch of the imagination. It was the parasites that created the depression that came up with the concept,except their focus was bankrupting corporations and even countries,and then buying up their assets at a penny on the dollar at bankruptcy sales. He's the $1.98 version of those guys.

@XenaLee

Something is wrong,here. I have read his father GAVE him 20 million plus 15,000 pieces of rental property in NYC to get him started.

Just last week Diamond Donald was claiming at the debate that his father "LENT me a very small amount of money,I think it was something like 14 million dollars to get me started in business". I THINK he even used the words "tiny amount" and "mere 14 million,nothing,really" during part of his multiple dismissal of that insignificant amount of money.

Now that story you gave the link to has him claiming his father only lent him "A" million dollars.

Has he lied so much that even he doesn't know which version is true anymore?

@CatherineofAragon

I just heard the reporter for the New York Times who received the package containing the income tax statements.  The interviewer asked her if that was all the information they had.  The reporter smiled and said she wouldn't answer that.  Based on her smiling, I think there will be more to come.  Good.

@Victoria33

No doubt more will be coming.  Trump supporters were warned this would happen.

Last month Steve Deace said the media would create a Trump comeback story for the month of September in order to drum up drama for the debate, and the floodgates would open in October.  Looks like he was correct.

These folks better be careful. There's that "law of unintended consequences", i.e. if the media goes so over the top on being anti-Trump, there could be a boomerang effect.

Yep. And the news coverage of Trump has become very one sided.

Hillary has her own set of serious issues also and she is also a candidate in this race in case the news media has forgotten

I'm wondering if the coming Wiki leak, per Assange, has been in contact with Trump regarding the coming news tomorrow about Hillary's corruption, etc..

The hurricane may squelch the amount of coverage given to Hillary's woes, but I understand they want to do it on their 10th anniversary.

If the hurricane veers out toward open sea...that means God is a Trumpster.    :laugh:

He canceled his public appearance to announce it on the balcony of the embassy.  Not the release, I'm told.

Sounds like he's being cautious.  I would be if I were in his shoes, too.  Someone's already been caught trying to break in to the Ecuadorian Embassy there in London.
