They were discussing 'substantive issues' for an hour and 29 minutes.  There may have been some good points in there by Trump but they were lost in his mindless rhetoric.  He cannot speak without repetition and hyperbole distorting whatever message he has.

It was only in the last minute of the debate when the subject of what Trump called Hillary came up, that she threw the bombshell.

Nothing about economy, worldwide unrest, terrorism.

I think your mother had "the moment" that a lot of us had at this latest round. There's no hoping that his "advisors" can control him, certainly no hope that he will ever learn to or even believe he needs to control himself, and no hope at all that he will realize what it would mean to be President of the US. 

Obama thought it was all about him, but to some extent, since he's a lazy, self-indulgent SOB, the clique behind him ruled through him while he golfed and made the occasional racially inflammatory statement (since he got elected solely on the basis of his melanin and he needed to keep that going).  They were bad, but more or less bad within the usual corrupt Democrat radical-leftist Islamophile boundaries, and if the GOP had been more aggressive, the Obama Dems wouldn't have gotten as far as they did.

But Trump doesn't even have a clique behind him who will do the governing while he smooches with himself in the mirror. He's crazy, he's alienated everyone and nobody can tell him what to do,  and there's no way on earth I'd vote for him after this latest demonstration of his insanity. I won't vote for Hillary, and I probably simply won't vote the top of the ticket.  Hillary will win anyway, especially after this stunt, so it really doesn't matter.
