Those of us who watched the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton last night are well-acquainted with political anguish. Forget the spin zone — both had a few good moments, but by the end it seemed that no one on that stage could have "won" in any meaningful sense of the word. So hundreds of people were surprised to wake up Tuesday morning to see #TrumpWon as the top Twitter trend in the U.S.

Naturally, the Republican nominee thanked the Internet.

How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.

b. o'er-the-hillary.

...and since you consider it "a shame" if Trump wins...

They are here trying to make us believe they are conservatives which they are not. Voting for Hillary or even saying nice things about this criminal takes you way out of the conservative circle. Nonsense, we know a lot about Trump because he has been a very public figure for a long time.   Most of what we know is very bad.   You can't say he's less liberal than her because his position changes daily.

This is the obvious truth that you are never supposed to actually say on TBR. Even after several prominent establishment Republicans have openly declared their support for Hillary, still on this site at least, it is still taboo for some reason to say that the majority of people who call themselves NeverTrumpers are in fact supporting Hillary to win.

There may be a few NeverTrumpers who really do actually believe that neither Hillary nor Trump will win. But there simply cannot be very many people who are really that naive, or that stupid. The majority of NeverTrumpers secretly want Hillary to win, they just can't face the fact that they support the Democrat side.

Most NeverTrumpers, not all, will never openly admit that they support Hillary over Trump. They won't admit it even to themselves.

Donald Trump believes in The Supreme Being, he doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs or party, he works hard, takes care of his family, and contributes to society by employing thousands of people.

I'd say that's living life as a conservative.

The flak you hear from #NeverTrump is about partisan politics and patronizing sanctimony, and that's irrelevant to the point of my comments.

If you're a conservative you oppose fascism.   You oppose racialism.  If you support those things, don't come around my crib.

If you don't mind my saying, you miss the point. Being part of the army of the virtuous dictates that they get to come back here and crow "I didn't vote for the New York liberal."

It's all about virtue signaling. Or self righteousness, there a number of ways of characterizing a Republican who refuses to vote for the Republican nominee against the evil witch, Hillary Clinton.

 Take your pick. Either way they are helping Hillary Rodham Clinton to become the first woman president of the United States. How sickening is that? But at least they got their virtue.

Maybe they can look their children in the eyes years from now and explain it to them how their mom or dad kept their virtue because they "never voted for a New York liberal" while the United States of America, as patriots knew it, was dismantled before our very eyes.
