House Homeland Security Chairman: There’s No Way to Vet Syrian Refugees

HOUSTON, Texas — U.S. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mike McCaul (R-TX) told members of the Downtown Houston Pachyderm Club there really is no way to vet Syrian refugees to make certain they are not a threat.

“If there is no data to check, there is no data to check,” McCaul said at the Thursday lunch meeting of local Republican activists. The chairman said he arrived at this conclusion after talking with some of the top security officials in the country.

McCaul’s concern about the proper vetting of Syrian refugees that President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton want to bring into this country led him to author the S.A.F.E. Act to put officials on record for their vetting actions. The American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act was passed by the House in November. However, a veto threat from President Obama caused the Senate to kill the bill and not allow it to move forward.
