Just when it seemed like the negative image of Donald Trump as a xenophobic, racist, and cartoonish excuse for a presidential candidate was permanently stained into most of the voters' minds, someone on his campaign staff had the brilliant idea to accept the invitation to meet Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City.

And now that the meeting is over, and both Trump and Nieto have made their formal statements, it's clear Trump has been given a crucial presidential-looking shot in the arm from perhaps the one foreign leader we least expected to give it to him. But that's not where the positives for Trump end, not by a long shot.

I'll admit Trump flying to meet with the Mexican president was good politics.

But what I heard from Trump today was a far cry from what he was promising a year ago. What I heard today puts him about in line with Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio. But we shall see what he says during his speech tonight.

Resolving our issues with Mexico will be a process.   I always felt the best way to stop people from coming into the US from Mexico is to make the Mexican economy stronger.  But to find a way to do it that won't be at the expense of American workers.    But that may take a change in the National Culture of Mexico to make that happen.

Just something I've noticed.

The majority of Mexico's population is Mestizo, but every Mexican leader has been lily-White.

Why do we never see anyone point that out?    And we're the racists?

What Trump did do was prove he could take part in a diplomatic meeting with at least some skill....  I would not have thought he could have stayed calm and on point enough to have at least a semi successful meeting with the Mexican president.  Cautiously optomistic that he could control himself on the international stage if elected.....

I'm not a Trump fan but the idea of Queen Hillary scares the crud out of me....
