Trump in scripted speech: I regret causing ‘personal pain’

By Mark Hensch

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump said he regrets hurting anyone with his blunt rhetoric on the campaign trail.

“As you know, I am not a politician. I have worked in business, creating jobs and rebuilding neighborhoods my entire adult life," he said in a rare scripted speech in Charlotte, N.C.

“I’ve never wanted to learn the language of the insiders, and I’ve never been politically correct – it takes far too much time, and can often make it more difficult to achieve total victory,” Trump added.

“Sometimes, in the heat of the debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that, and I regret it, particularly where it may have caused personal pain. Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues."

The surprise teleprompter speech comes just days after Trump shook up his campaign leadership, naming pollster and former adviser Kellyanne Conway as campaign manager and Breitbart executive Steve Bannon campaign CEO.

This may have been scripted but it was the best speech I have heard him give.

He hit all the points and attacked Hillary relentlessly

Stay on message and use the teleprompter[which he is getting better at] and keep giving speeches like this one..

Good grief.  Trump is the consummate insider who speaks fluent politician-ese - you have to be to get ahead in NYC real estate.

Well, it was a nice speech.

Can he keep this up?  This was a scripted speech, so one has no idea if he believes any of this.  He's going to Louisiana, which is purely political, but it's more than Obama has done.

The bar is so low for Trump that he gives an unspecified apology for unspecified actions to unspecified people and the press goes ga ga.  He's trying to pivot, to be somebody he's not. We know who the real Trump is.  We've seen him for over 400 days.

Jury's out.

His speech covers his lack of basic human decency by saying he doesn't speak insider. (Which is just another backhanded insult)

@mystery-ak

This is the third terrific speech from Trump this week.  He was on message, attacked the Democrats relentlessly, especially Hillary, and was pure Trump when the spirit moved him.

I'm glad you watched ... I sent you an earlier ping (which you can now ignore )

It is good to give Trump accolades when he stumbles on to the Conservative train.

He's given 3 good speeches so far.  Continue hammering his stupid statements, but keep the carrot and stick approach.

What trump needs is the Conway Twitty effect...... Hello Darlin'...

So he wasn't playing sixth dimensional chess or baiting the press after all? By his own admission, he just can't speak well?

Funny how the fake words Trump is speaking now - they were written for him by someone else, and probably tested in a focus group - are suddenly making up for the true words Trump spoke every time he put his big fat foot in his even bigger fat mouth.

Trump simply cannot be trusted.  He is a liar and an idiot.  And that will never change.

Oh ... the "choo-choo" speech.  I'm rolling again.  Those two gals are a trip and a half.   :silly:
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
